A Wonderful and varied excursion with a kind and knowledgable guide
, Jan 2020
The tour was entertaining, educational & an excellent value. Roberto was prompt & obliging &, growing up in the shadow of Etna, he has a personal appreciation & knowledge of Etna's contributions. We are grateful to him for orchestrating such a wonderful and varied excursion, which was the highpoint of our visit to Taormina, and we would recommend it to anyone that might like to share in a memorable experience.
Excellent tour! Bruno was a wonderful tour guide, knowledgeable, attentive and fun!
He taught us all about the volcano and the land and soil created by it’s eruptions. The views were beautiful! We stopped at a honey farm and tasted the local honey, olive oil, capers... We had a delicious lunch and wine tasting, pairing at Gambino Vineyard. It wasn’t just a tasting, the bottles were left at the table for us to enjoy with lunch! We were taught all about the grapes and how they grow in the volcanic soil. There was a little time left at the end of our tour and we expressed an interest in a small town, called Castelmola. Bruno went out of his way to take us for a quick tour of the town! It was a day I’ll always remember. Many thanks to Bruno for making our trip fantastic!
Although the visit to Etna was a bit disappointing due to the weather (extreme wind), the winery visit more than made up for that, plus our guide was great. Raffaele met us at our hotel precisely on time, he was an excellent driver, very knowledgeable regarding the volcano, the geology, etc., friendly, helpful, and polite. The wine-tasting was so much more than the usual in the states--generous (unlimited?) pours with an abundance of delicious food pairings.
Get a taste of Sicily with this private tour to Mt. Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano. Leave the driving to your private guide and take in the scenery as you drive through mountain villages, stopping at a local honey farm. Visit the famous Silvestri Craters and an Etna winery for lunch and a tasting of both red and white Sicilian wines. This tour can be customized, including the addition of a cable car ascent to 3000 meters up the volcano.
Fabulous baritone, soprano and pianist who performed 5 arias and a piano solo before intermission when we were served sparkling wine. The second half featured 4 arias and another piano solo. We then had two encores.
The performers were very engaging and related well to the audience. The place was packed on a rainy Monday night.
Complement your Taormina excursions with a dose of Italian culture when you attend this evening of opera. Talented singers will perform duets and arias from some of the most popular Italian-written operas, including La Traviata, Tosca, and La Bohème. Tickets also include a glass of Champagne, plus opportunities to admire photo-worthy views of the city from the theater's terrace.
Etna, Wine and Alcantara Tour - Small Groups from Taormina
, Jan 2020
Our guide, Tony, was friendly, enthusiastic, and very knowledgeable about Mt. Etna’s volcanic history and events. He also taught us a lot about Sicily and Sicilians. We also learned about winemaking in the Etna region. It was an incredible day!
This was the highlight of our Sicily trip. Saro, our tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable and so friendly. The tour company provides heavy jackets so it can take place rain or shine as well as hiking boots so you don't need to lug those around in your luggage. The food and wine tasting was excellent. It was just such a fantastic day, I can't recommend it enough.
Our guide, John, picked us up promptly at the designated pickup location - just a very short walk from our B&B. The tour consisted of a small group (about 8 people total). John was very knowledgable about the entire area and provided loads of insights as we traveled to the first stop on Mt. Etna - where we outfitted with heavy coats, hiking shoes and helmets then continued up to where we hiked. John pointed out and explained the geology of the area and volcanos in general and was engaging in answering everyones questions. He took the time to completely explore the area and was careful to make sure that everyone was safe. The mid-day stop at the winery was very nice, the owner/host was gracious and the food was far beyond the expected fare for wine tasting. The only disappointment was their inability to ship their product outside of Europe. And finally, the Alcantara Gorge was simply amazing. I dont understand why it is not more heavily highlighted in tour/guide books -- It made the day!
Mount Etna is Europe's largest active volcano, but you don’t have to climb the mighty peak to experience the natural wonder. On this full-day tour from Taormina, hike through the ancient woodlands and lava caves of Mt Etna; indulge in a Sicilian-style lunch and wine tasting; and explore the Alcantara Gorge. Hotel pickup and drop-off is included.
Godfather Private Tour in Savoca and Forza d'Agro with Wine and Dinner Option
From $138.70 (Price varies by group size )
Beautiful Day In The Hills Overlooking The Coast
, Nov 2019
We had Marco as our guide, he was wonderful and knowledgeable. He made the day a wonderful experience. He knew exactly where to take us and when to maximize our experience. Marco was so enjoyable to listen to all the real stories of things that happy during filming. He showed us exactly where things happened and the movie came alive as you walked through the very streets as the actors and crew. I think I enjoyed the anecdotes about Francis Ford Coppola more than anything else. This just makes you want to watch the movies all over again. Thank you so much Marco!
Our guide, Bruno, was really funny and interesting. We had a good time and we especially love the town of Savoca. But the time between the "dégustation" and the lunch was to close, so we were not hungry at all the enjoy the nice plate of fish.
Beautiful tour of Savoca and Forza D'Agro and the making of the Godfather movies !! Bruno was extremely knowledgeable about the history and countryside and Sicilian history as well!! It was an amazing day !!!!
Sicily’s romantic atmosphere and unconventional history has seduced visitors for millennia, but they're easy to miss in the bustle of modern travel. This private walking tour immerses you in rustic hill towns and the history of the Sicilian Mafia—including visits to filming sites of The Godfather movie—and the anti-Mafia fight. Upgrade to end your tour with food and wine tastings or a traditional fish dinner at a local restaurant.
Good fun, courier was pleasant and site of film was great. don't know about second location of a church up a mountain for a scene of godfather 2 or 3 ! Bit of a waste of time as there was nothing much else there so hanging around for those who wanted to see inside of church!
Very good tour guide who gave an excellent review of the movie while touring. She had examples of the movie on her phone that would enable us to relate the current locations to the movie. As you might imagine, the locations have changed a bit since 1970. We were allowed free time to explore and sit down in the bar where some of the movie was filmed. I would highly recommend this fun and interesting tour.
Visit the real-life locations in those iconic scenes from ‘The Godfather’ during this coach tour of filming locations from Taormina or the province of Messina. There is a Sicilian town called Corleone, but the movies weren’t filmed there. Instead, the towns of Savoca and Forzà d'Agrò set the scene. See the famous Bar Vitelli, among other places you’ll recognize from the films, while your guide tells stories about the movies and Sicily.
Nature, art and history are the three ingredients of Taormina's international success that make the Pearl of the Ionian one of the most sought-after destinations since modern tourism exists. In particular, its Teatro Antico is the main attraction that has always conquered generations and generations of visitors.
The panoramic points offered by the Theater allow you to admire Mount Etna and the bay of Naxos and Taormina to the south or the Calabrian coast with the Strait of Messina to the north.
Within this spectacular natural setting, the construction of the building with the cavea cut into the rock is in perfect harmony with the surrounding environment.
Mount Etna Half-Day Tour - Small Groups From Taormina
, Jan 2020
Giuseppe was just amazing he made the tour! So knowledgeable, fun and welcoming! I would recommend this tour to everyone. The views are spectacular!!! You need warm clothing even in summer we went in January and very cold, 20 degrees at coast 4 degrees there. Some of the hiking is hard so you need to be physically fit. Wine and sandwich at the end was delicious and very welcomed.
This was a superb trip all the way through — from booking, through confirmation, to delivery of the trip as promised. Great value for the money. We enjoyed it immensely. Our guide, Eddie, was intelligent, good-natured, and well-versed on the history and constant evolution of the volcano, and was a fountain of information about Sicily and its people. Can’t recommend this tour highly enough!
Trek around Mount Etna on this tour with a small group and an expert trekking guide. Set off from Taormina to spend the day learning about the volcano's history, exploring craters and lava caves. Stop at a local chalet for an included snack and wine. Hotel or port pickup and drop-off can be arranged on request.
This is an absolute must! Chef Massimo was incredible. We started at the market and hand picked items on our menu then went back to a kitchen/restaurant (phenomenal views) where we created everything from start to finish, with the excellence guidance of Massimo. We love making the pasta from scratch and the food tasted excellent. He provided local wines as well. This was definitely one of our favorite highlights of our 2 week vacation in Europe!
From learning how to identify good produce from the local market, to preparation of the food and then finally eating what we have cooked - Chef Massimo was just fantastic.
He had the patience and skill to prepare simple foods and make them taste as if they came out of a 5 star restaurant.
If your passionate about food and learning how to make food selections - Chef Massimo is the right person for you.
Thank you Chef for a great day and an exceptional food experience. Your company and great nature was nothing short of fabulous - you treated us all with such respect and passion.
Next time we visit Taormina, we will be book another cooking class with the talented Chef Massimo.
Until we next meet again.
The best way to connect with any local culture is through food, and nowhere is this more true than Sicily. With this cooking class, shop for ingredients at the market in Taormina like a local before learning how to prepare a variety of traditional Sicilian dishes with Chef Massimo in his restaurant kitchen. Enjoy the fruits of our labors over lunch afterwards, served with two local wines.
The trip up Mount Etna is well worth it. Amazing views and if you go the extra to 3000 meters you are almost at the top of the mountain.
The only thing which let our tour down was the lack of organization. The ticket booth and cable car entry is quite narrow and chaotic. Out tour guide told us to wait for her and then at the top rushed off with half the group to pick up the guide leaving the rest of us behind to sort out our own tour of the craters. I think it actually worked out better for us so my tip is to go round by yourself.
Very informative and well led tour with a caring staff. For those without an automobile, the tour is a very good value since both sites can be visited within a day tour. The only negative is that more time is required to see Villa Romana del Casale than was provided.
Explore Europe’s largest active volcano this day trip to Mt Etna from Taormina. Relax with transportation to the base station of Rifugio Sapienza and then take off through the foothills for some time to spend hiking at your leisure. Alternatively, upgrade your ticket for a trip up to the upper craters and a guided walking tour through the volcanic craters. Soak up scenic views from the UNESCO-listed spot before concluding with transportation back to Taormina.
Had a great time. The instruction was informative. The restaurant staff was welcoming. It was a small group setting, only 6 of us. Enjoyed taking the class with other tourist from different countries. We had a lot of laughs, food and wine. Highly recommended.
Great hands on experience making pizza, bread and pasta from scratch! Learned a lot and got to enjoy eating what we made - along with some nice Sicilian wine! Definitely recommend giving this tour a try. Big fun!
Make pizza like a pro during a cooking class in Taormina. Under the expert tuition of a local ‘pizzaiolo,’ you’ll make a versatile dough from scratch and top it with a fresh sauce. Hear tips, learn about the ingredients, then sit down to savor your hard-earned Sicilian feast. Bruschetta, wine, and soft drinks are also included.
Of my three-week stint in Italy, this experience was by far one of the most memorable and heart-warming. We learnt so much while at the market and later, by making our meal itself. Chef Domenico is charismatic and you can tell that he truly cares about food, and also the people he connects with through the class. I definitely made friends and lived my BEST life that day. I can't wait to go back and bring my boyfriend along. BOOK THIS CLASS NOW!!!
It was a good experience with a personable chef/teacher. The dishes we made were tasty, the wine was a good addition. From others we met in our travels, that attended other cooking experiences, it seems we did the minimum and other classes offered more dishes and a wider variety. I thought that during the session, that we would do more dishes, but it was confirmed.
A really interesting half-day starting with a trip to the local market. Domenico was really generous with his time and we learned a lot. The cooking session was also really interesting as we learned to make Sicily style pasta, caponata and baked sea bass. The restaurant was great nd is certainly go back there to eat
Dig into delicious Sicilian cuisine by taking this fun half-day cooking class at a restaurant in central Taormina. With a professional Sicilian chef by your side, learn about the history of the regional cuisine and prepare a lush 3-course meal. Visit the outdoor market to purchase ingredients and then head back to the restaurant to begin cooking and, eventually, eating.
We highly recommend this tour! We got lucky in that the four of us got the tour guide to ourselves and he was amazing. Lots of photo opportunities and our guide was a wealth of knowledge. Caution: there is a lot of walking on uneven surfaces and up hilly terrain (but all of Taormina is hills so we were prepared!) A wonderful experience.
Appreciate the serene beauty of Taormina on a brief walking tour. Learn about the culture and archaeology of this historical beach town in eastern Sicily from your guide as you explore the Greek Theatre, Piazza Duomo, Palazzo Corvaja, and an ancient Roman theater. Take in the views of Taormina during a stroll along Corso Umberto, seeing the Old Town lit up next to the Mediterranean.
This was a nice tour to walk through the various sites where the godfather was filmed and finish with a very nice lunch. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars was that comparing the price to other tours we have done in Italy through Vidor, it is a little bit pricey.
Rosario was a wonderful guide and driver. He picked us up on time and immediately started sharing information about the area, The tour doesn’t only focus on the Godfather movie; the guide shares more interesting facts about the mafia in Sicily and in the states, Very informative!! The short movie showing the scenes from the films was a good reminder.
Lunch is exceptional! It was by far the best pasta dish I had on our trip.
Compare the unforgettable storyline of "The Godfather" saga with real-life Mafia history during this in-depth guided tour of two Sicilian villages. See filming locations, like the church where Micheal Corleone married his young bride, Apollonia. You’ll also hear true stories from Sicilian Mafia clans and learn about their grip on southern Italy. The small-group tour is limited to eight and concludes with a tasty pasta buffet at a typical trattoria.
Valley of the Temples and Villa Romana del Casale Day Trip from Taormina
Temples and Villa Romana- mosaics not to be missed!
, Oct 2019
A very long day- and tiring as we did a lot of walking. Give yourselves a day off after doing this! It was a long drive from Taormina to the south of Sicily. Our guide gave us some information about the country. We had beautiful weather, so the temples were stunning. Our local guide was good, although there were long delays as she had to do each talk twice, once in German, then in English.
We had some free time after the guided tour. Then we drove to the Villa Romana del Casale, which was a delight. Not to be missed if you like Roman archaeology. The mosaics are so well preserved and tell so much about the owner of the villa. Stunning.
A very long journey home- returned to hotel about 8. traffic round Catania is very slow. Nevertheless, an excellent day out, and stunning scenery.
Temple guide was excellent. However, time was wasted when she had to keep switching languages. Could have lengthened the tour to see more of the area if she did not have to do that. Would have preferred a tour conducted in one language.
. Also saw other tour groups with individual Head sets -making it easier to hear when in a big group. This would have been helpful.
Explore two of Italy's greatest archeological sites on this exciting guided tour of the Valley of the Temples and Villa Romana del Casale. Leave Taormina with a local guide and be prepared to get very acquainted with Ancient Greek statuary and architecture, as well as, as centuries-old monuments from the Roman Empire. See the amazing collection of mosaics and even an ancient hunting lodge.

Simone was a fantastic guide, sharing his extensive knowledge of the volcano and surrounding areas. We hiked to some of the larger craters, about 2000m up. The view spectacular! Bring good shoes for moderate hiking and layers to dress in, along with water. Glad we did this - beautiful and educational.
Great tour of Etna with a great guide who had remarkable knowledge of history of Etna. Unfortunately my wife and I were in the way back of a Toyota suv and it was hard to hear. Hikes had great views. Our lunch was supposed to be included but we had to pay 50 euros.

Fun Walking through Taormina and Castelmola
, Oct 2019
Marco met us at our vacation rental. He quickly showed us the neighborhood where we were staying in the old town. He pointed out some of the eateries, what to order there, the novelty shops, etc. He took us to buildings that would have no exterior visual appeal, where, upon entry, were absolutely stunning.
His English is quite good. He gave us lots of history, mythological lore and fun narratives.
He had secured a seasoned driver to take us up the narrow, snaky curves to ascend to Castelmola. It is a treasure of a small town with great views. We also sampled almond wine in a risqué bar. Quite fun.
We did not do the food and wine tasting option. Overall, a fun morning and early afternoon with a Marco.
Our guide, Marco, was excellent! He showed us everything in both cities. His knowledge of his country was incredible. Often he was able to get us off the usual tourist paths and back into areas of Taormina and Castelmola that only a native would know of. I would give this tour my highest recommendation.
