"Yen Thai Silk, Bat Trang Pottery, Dinh Cong Silver, Ngu Xa Copper" is the quintessential quarters of the Thang Long trade village. Through its history, the village has seen several drastic changes take place to its people, culture, tradition and crafts but silversmithing in Dinh Cong is one of the few ancient crafts of Thang Long (old name of Hanoi) that still exists today.
Located on the To Lich river bank in Hanoi's Hoang Mai district, approximately 10km from Hoan Kiem Lake), Dinh Cong village has long term history of silver handcrafts. According to the legend, in King Ly Nam De's reign, three brothers of the Tran family (Tran Dien, Tran Hoa and Tran Dien) learned how to make silver and gold jewelries by chance, mastered the skills and then passed this on to the local people of the village and created the reputation of Dinh Cong's products. The products are not just beautiful but also have a masterful finish.
