Dong Ho Village with its famous paintings has become an aesthetic symbol in Vietnam culture. Located to the left side of Duong River, Dong Ho stood for centuries making their unique art work. From over 100 families in the 1950s, currently there are only a handful of families still making the traditional craft. Dong Ho paintings are places for artists to reflect their wishes for lucks and their perception of everyday life in the village.
Introduced to Vietnam by Chinese calligraphers centuries ago, Vietnamese calligraphy has evolved over time into different modern styles, each style designed to communicate something different to its reader. In this short class led by a renowned local calligrapher, learn some of the techniques used by modern Vietnamese calligraphers. The Temple of Literature, known as Van Mieu. The temple was built in 1070 during the Ly dynasty. When it was first established, only people of noble birth were admitted to the grounds. In 1442 the university opened its doors to receive talented students from across the country. In the 15th century the emperor Le Thanh Thong had commemorative inscriptions made for all who were given a doctorate. Today 82 stelae for 1,307 laureates remain.
