How to Spend 3 Days in York
With an abundance of medieval architecture and historic landmarks to admire during the day and a lively bar and restaurant scene to enjoy once the sun goes down, there’s plenty to keep you busy in York. Here are a few ideas for how to spend 3 days in York.

Day 1: Walk the Walls

Following the route of York’s medieval City Walls is a perfect way to take in the sights. It’s free to climb the well-preserved remains and strolling along the ramparts offers panoramic views of many of the city’s top attractions. Stop off along the way to admire the magnificent gothic York Minster Cathedral, climb to the top of Clifford’s Tower and sip coffee with a view of the iconic Micklegate Bar, the monumental gateway to the city.

Day 2: Explore the City’s Museums

As one of England’s oldest cities and most thriving university towns, it’s no surprise that York has a wealth of museums and there’s truly something to suit all tastes. Experience life through the ages at the innovative York Castle Museum; ponder the archeological treasures at the Yorkshire Museum; or clamber aboard steam locomotives at the National Railway museum.  If you’ve got kids in tow, the Jorvik Viking Center and Dig museum offer an interactive way to learn about the city’s past, or the hair-raising York Dungeons offer a harrowing insight into York’s most notorious villains.

Day 3: Hit the Shops

York is a hugely popular shopping destination so put aside some time to hit the shops and bag some unique souvenirs. The quirky medieval lane The Shambles is an atmospheric place to start, lined with half-timbered buildings, cobblestone alleyways and old-fashioned shop fronts. Petergate and Stonegate are the main shopping boulevards, where you’ll find all of Britain’s top high street chains, whereas the lattice of streets known as The Quarter is renowned for its independent boutiques and vintage stores. Take a break from flexing your credit card at the legendary Betty’s Tea Rooms, where you can enjoy a cup of Yorkshire tea and tuck into a selection of delicious local cakes.
