See a spookier side to York without the worry of getting lost during this guided ghost walk around the streets and snickelways (alleys) of the medieval city. Listen to your guide tell tales of York’s tragic past that you wouldn’t otherwise hear, ask questions along the way to learn more, and enjoy an atypical introduction to the city.
This was a very informative tour full of character and interesting tibits. This was a fabulous way to learn about the "flavor" of York and the city's history. Our guide, Alfred, was very knowledgeable and personable. I highly recommend this tour as both my friend and I greatly enjoyed it... just be prepared to walk!
Don’t worry about getting lost in the winding streets of medieval York during this introductory tour of the city, ideal for first-time visitors and those with limited time in the region. See several York highlights—including St Mary’s Abbey, York Minster, and The Shambles—without worrying about directions, while benefiting from the insight of your guide throughout.
I would rate this tour 3-4 star. We had a very short time to explore Whitby. Besides everything about both tours was first class. The Mini Cabs were very comfortable, drivers very polite and helpful. Pick up and times
were very punctual.
May I tell you that this was not my first time that I booked a tour with Viator when abroad, and every time I am more than satisfied. In fact when I travel I look for Viator tours first before booking an excursion.
We were lucky enough to have a lovely comfortable minibus for just six of us on a lovely bright December day. Trevor was friendly and a well informed guide, he told us lots of interesting info about the beautiful areas we visited and made some interesting photo stops. I would have liked longer in Whitby but we did manage to squeeze a lot in to one day, we definitely felt like we'd had a solid taster of what the Moors has to offer!

Yorkshire Dales and Fountains Abbey Small-Group Day Trip from York
A great trip to see so much of Yorkshire
, Oct 2019
My daughter & I took the tour yesterday with Peter through the Yorkshire Dales & Fountains Abbey. Well worth the price. We covered so many different places & went through darling villages. Peter is friendly & informative while sticking to backroads & countryside. We loved it!
Driver was very knowledgeable. Convinced we saw the best of the places we were taken too and loved hearing the history for the places we stopped. Stops were well placed and we were provided adequate time at each. Knarsborough was a bonus and beautiful.

Well deserved top spot for this highly entertaining experience. Mad Alice took the trouble to have dialogue with all on the tour . she remembered what they said too. Really made it personal and special. She also looked after us in traffic and made sure we did not get lost.
Skip the standard group tours and enjoy an alternative history of York during this award-winning, immersive guided tour of the city. This day trip was fantastic. We saw a lot of amazing and beautiful sites and our tour guide JJ was fantastic! His knowledge of The dales and Yorkshire was spot on and couldn’t ask for really anything more. The only thing if I was going to give constructive criticism would have been to simply been able to just wonder around to experience the natural beauty more of the dales. But It was overall fantastic.
Without a hire car, it’s impossible to round up the sights of the Yorkshire Dales National Park in a day from York. Lake District Highlights Day Trip from York with Lake Cruise
, Oct 2019
Enjoyed the trip and wonderful scenery. However, we were disappointed that we could not access Beatrix Potter's home as this was one of the main reasons for going.and It was mentioned on the itinerary.. Both drivers/guides were pleasant and informative. A very long day but I guess it couldn't be avoided as there was a lot of ground to cover.

Steam Trains, Whitby, and the North York Moors Full-Day Tour from York
A day of Yorkshire
, Oct 2019
Great day out .got to see many parts of Yorkshire .with the highlight being the moors and a ride on a steam train .peter the guide was top draw explaining the whole day and telling us the times and places we had to be to pick up the mini bus .lovely day out cheers Pete
For Californians, this was a great way to experience the best of the North York Moors in early August. Wish we could remember the name of the young man who guided us through the moors, even jumping out of the van to show us how quick and low flying the grouse are presenting a challenge for the shooters who would be stalking them during the next weeks. He was extremely knowledgable and friendly even adding one last stop at St. Peter and St. Paul in Pickering, home of the famous medieval frescoes! We had picture perfect weather for walking the grounds of the beautiful remains of Whitby Abbey on the North Sea as well as a stroll through the colorful town of Whitby. The steam train ride on the North Yorkshire Moors RR gave us a view of a wooded section of the moor. It was a grand day!
We had a great day despite the rain, we all got dropped off at the Abbey then walked down the 199 steps into the town. Had fish and chips gluten free for lunch so good to be able to do, so thank you Magpie Cafe. Then we went to Goathland for our steam train trip. Along the way to Whitby we went through the moors and learnt about them , and through quaint villages . Great knowledgeable guide. Fun day

This tour exceeded all expectations. John led us through the history of the British Isles through York’s history. He brought history alive with knowledge and humor, especially York under the Romans and Vikings. We literally saw layers of York history from the ground up as each successive culture built on their predecessors. We recreated Viking shield battles, walked the walls and discussed how history has influenced the politics of the present day. I highly recommend our tour guide John. Ask him about the video game about York that he is working on! There was no place to choose the type of our visit so I will state here that we are a family of three with a 20 something post college son who was a history major.
We loved him. We were exhausted and he walked us around with such energy and personality that we were energized. He was easy to work with and flexible as our train was late and he allowed us to start later.
He was knowledgeable, sweet and excited to impart his vast depth of history to us! Do it...he’s great!

Romans, Vikings and Medieval Marvels Walking Audio Tour by VoiceMap
On future trips, we will look for this option first.
, Oct 2019
My wife and I typically enjoy walking tours, but often wish we could stop at some interesting little shop we see along the way, perhaps sit at a cafe for a drink, or linger a bit at a particular point of interest. The other alternative being to return after the tour, which we seldom wind up doing. This was the perfect alternative. The audio guide was very well done, and with only a few minor glitches (requiring a couple of restarts) worked as advertised. It took us 2 days to complete what should have been a 1-2 hour tour, and in our minds it was perfect. On the first day we decided to go in to Yorkminster while we were there, tour the cathedral, and even climb the tower. It was great. Later on the route we stopped for coffee, then wound up in a great little clothing boutique which was having a sale. At about half way through the tour, we decided to have a late lunch and drinks. Didn’t feel like carrying on after that, so we simply resumed the tour on the next day, right where we left off; completely on our schedule, inconveniencing no one, and thoroughly enjoying the experience.

Definitely on the top 2 of our tours in the UK! John (our tour guide) was so informative (and he didn't give up on us even when I wrote down the incorrect time to meet - which I had requested!)! The walking tour covered so much of the intriguing history of York (with some good ghost stories included); made our stay in the town so much more enjoyable! Will be one of the best memories of this UK trip for my brother and me!!
John is amazing - he is so knowledgeable and genuinely excited about sharing his historical expertise! We have taken the normal “ghost tour” before and found them fun, but lacking in historical information. John customized the tour to suit us and our interests. Highly recommend , especially if you are interested in history of York.

Our tour was operated by Grand Yorkshire Limited and we could not have had a better experience during our time in York. Our guide for our walking tour, Matt, was extremely friendly and knowledgable – my wife and I learned so much! He also gave us great recommendations to explore the city at our leisure and dining options as well. After lunch, our day continued with Peter, who drove us through Yorkshire making great stops in the countryside on our way to Whitby. Like Matt, Peter was just as friendly and knowledgeable about the history of York, Yorkshire, Whitby, and every stop between. We made many stops for photos along the way and to stretch our legs with a walk in the Moors. Thank you both so much for making our time in York so wonderful, I highly recommend this tour.
Great walking tour and Van Tour
A lot of great information on the walking tour and the trip to the moors and coastal cities
Driver - Pete - was great and Mat was very informative on the walking tour
