Ways to visit Dolac Market

The market is divided into two sections: a raised, open-air market square for fresh fruits, vegetables, and eggs and a street-level indoor market for meat, fish, dairy products, and flowers. From early morning on, the market buzzes with shoppers and traders. Watch from one of the bars or cafés around the edge where you can dine on gableci (cheap, hearty lunches). Explore independently or with a tour guide. Most Zagreb sightseeing tours include a market stop.

Croatian hospitality at its finest
Karmela's Croatian hospitality is unparalleled. She loves her country, history, cuisine and its people, which definitely shows. I love the mix of old school traditional and reimagined traditional with 100% Croatian ingredients and heart. She is generous with her time and answering questions. Karmela is a gem and you'd be blessed to have her show you around carefully selected food purveyors.

Exceptional experience, if I could I would give it 7 stars!

Zagreb Walking Food Tour - Sightseeing - Dolac market visit
An exceptional experience, certainly the best value I have encountered on any food tour! Delicious Croatian food as well as a walking history tour of Zagreb by an engaging, passionate and knowledgeable local guide. Our day started with coffee, cheese tastings and then a visit to the Dolac markets for more cheese tastings and visiting other local produce vendors (cured meats, fish, bread, pickles etc... ) Next was a visit to a hidden cafe to have strukli (delicious), to a wine bar to taste quality Croatian wines and cured meats and then to a traditional Croatian restaurant for lunch. We finished the day with a local dessert at a cafe (six hours later). This food tour will be our benchmark for all future tours. We have joined over a dozen food tours across Europe in the past, many of which have been 5 star experiences but in comparison this tour is 7 stars!

Croatian cuisine cooking class with Dolac market tour
This is a must do for any foodie! We had already done a food tour with Karmela two days earlier, so we knew this was going to be special. The kitchen is amazing and everything is made from scratch with quality ingredients and traditional methods. Karmela is a wonderful cook, host and local Croatian. The class goes for 4-hours and the three course meal and wine is superb. As with the food tour, if I could, I would give this cooking class 7 stars, it is an experience that we will never forget and will always remember Zagreb fondly because of Karmela.

Strukli cooking class with Dolac Market Tour
My friend and I participated in this experience and here's what she said to me afterwards: "Throughout all my travels, never had I had this behind-the-scenes perspective where I actually participated in making the new flavours I was trying. I had SUCH a great time." And so did I. We were so impressed by Karmela's knowledge of local and international cuisine, history, geography and the people, regional differences in ingredients and colourful stories of cooking with her grandmother. We were completely entertained and engaged throughout the entire tour. I wholeheartedly recommend this experience. Thank you, Karmela!
