WinSport

WinSport
A legacy of the 1988 Winter Games, WinSport, Canada's Olympic Park, has hosted Olympic events in ski jumping, bobsled, and luge. These days, its professional-standard facilities are mostly used for recreational purposes, with visitors flocking here not only to ski, snowboard, and bobsled but also to try other activities, such as ziplining.

The Basics
WinSport is a dream for active travelers, with a whole host of exhilarating experiences on offer. Try a single activity, such as a bobsled ride down the same track traversed by the 1988 Jamaican bobsled team—the real-life inspiration behind Cool Runnings—or ziplining from the park’s ski jump. Alternatively, save money by prebooking combination tickets, which include multiple activities within the park.

While the park offers many high-adrenaline options, including downhill skiing in winter, mountain biking in summer, and the Free Fall, which mimics the experience of skydiving, more gentle activities, including miniature golf, chairlift rides, and Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, are also available.

Things to Know Before You Go
  • WinSport is a must for adrenaline junkies.
  • Some activities have age, height, and weight restrictions.
  • Most activities take place outside, so weather-appropriate gear is required.

How to Get There
WinSport is a 15-minute drive west of Calgary, just off the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1). Free parking is available at the site.

When to Get There
The park is open throughout the year, though many activities are seasonal. Go in winter to try skiing, snowboarding, and tubing, or in summer for ziplining, mountain biking, and miniature golf. You can bobsled any time of year.

Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame
Hosted within the park complex is Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame, which records the greatest and most memorable of Canada’s sporting achievements. The current hall of fame, which opened here in 2011, includes state-of-the-art, hands-on displays, including interactive shadow boxing and rowing experiences.
