So I like history, especially WW2 hence why i choose this tour. The tour was perfect for me a small group, and the good thing not only did we learn about the WW2 but also about he history of Malta and the previous invasions/knights/power of the church..so in all it was not all about WW2. It was interesting and i learnt a lot of things that i didnt know about Malta during WW2, like the amount of bombs, how close it came to fallen into the Axis hands if the SS Ohio didnt make it. So well worth the money i really enjoyed it.
Our guide for the day - Marthese-she was excellent, polite, knowledgeable and answered any questions i had, and good hearing from a Maltese side experience from her family. OUTSTANDING Highly Recommend
Local Maltese guide with lots of info passed down through family members who were there during the war. Loved the WWII bunkers & archive info and the various places we travelled to. We were in time to hear the canon fired across the harbour at Noon too, thoroughly recommend for anyone who wants a more in depth look at how the island dealt with the war.
Very comprehensive, if a little tiring as much of the day long tour is conducted on foot. But I wouldn't have missed it for the world as it was something that has long been on my bucket list. Our guide was very friendly and informative and the scenery simply breathtaking.
Good trip a very full day did it in March not sure if the length would suit a hot summer's day but fascinating
Its not just for WW2 buffs but gives you a flavour of the island at war,
The highlight is Fort St Elmo and the museum, the guides highly knowledgeable and the tour interesting
Our tour consisted of 5 things, and I'll rate each of these items separately.
1 Pickup at Cirkewwa Ferry
2 Malta-at War Museum
3 Walk through Historic Valetta
4 National War Museum at St Elmo
5 Drop Off
1 The pickup was a bit chaotic, as no one showed up to pick us up. We tried to call the main number provided by the website, but no one answered the phone. We had to call Viator direclty, and after about 15 minutes of trying Viator was able to contact the operator and arranged to have someone pick us up. We were about an hour late. The bus driver claimed he witnessed an accident and had to wait to file a police report. Of course, there is no way for us to verify this. Interestingly, the operator called several of his/her colleagues at the Ferry Terminal to check that we were real people waiting for them.
2 This part of the tour was fantastic. We had an excellent guide who took us through the museum, including the old WW2 bunkers. He told us some excellent stories about the life in the bunkers, and life in Malta during WW2. Highly recommended.
3 The walk about Historic Malta was interesting, but not really relevant about WW2. We took about an hour lunch break separately, which was nice, but ate up a lot of time that was really unnecessary.
4 This was museum was quite fascinating, and very interesting. However, we were left to our own devices to wander through the museum. Other than the admission to get in, I'm not sure what the value add of the tour was.
5 The tour was kind enough to drive us across the island during rush hour to drop us off back at Cirkewwa Ferry Terminal.
Overall, I don't think the tour was good value for money, given that we paid 150 GBP for our family. However, the customer service after the pickup error was reasonable given the circumstances.
