We got off the ship and walked down to Captain Marvin's. They took us by bus to the pier. We got on a beautiful boat and went out to Stingray City. It was a great experience. We saw 30-40 stingrays. They let us touch them. Lots of fun. Water was as clear as glass. The crew took pictures and we were happy to buy them for $40. We also stopped at 2 snorkel locations. You can't go wrong by choosing this tour/excursion.
Amazing. Great locations to stop off in.. two reef areas, stingrays and we even had time for Starfish point. The crew was tons of fun, provided fruit juice and water. They also take pictures for you with the stingrays so you don't have to worry if you don't have the right camera.... It was my husband and I with my 6 and 4 year old daughters, they had everything the girls needed onboard for snorkeling but really they just needed the life jacket and their own goggles they are comfortable with. They loved just bobbing around and following fish, surprisingly the 4 year old loved the stingrays.
Another extra star for this is the food.. The place they took us for lunch was AMAZING... one of my favorite meals.. the fish, everyone was talking about. Looked like it was in a sweet and sour sauce, was light and amazing. You can order beverages at the restaurant bar as well as a pasta for kids if you need. Everyone left the tour happy and I find that the best tours are when people are just happy with the adventure, they are happy together, so everyone was talking to each other. We met great travelers!
We were in Grand Cayman on 12/26/17. We were with Captain Jimmy. Not sure that was the captain's name, but that's what they told us and it was on the boat. We have done this tour before and loved it. However, on 12/26 it was very windy. Okay. Not a big deal. The problem was when we got to sting ray city, there were big waves breaking at one end and that's where they anchored our boat. There were quite a few boats there so the captain said that was the only place to anchor. The water depth at that point was 5 feet and if you add the swells and breaks coming in, it was probably 10 feet at times. I'm 5'2. I can swim. I have done this trip before. My husband is physically fit, 5'10 and had a hard time with the waves. They just knocked me all over the place. This was horrible and I feel they put our lives in danger by anchoring at that area instead of waiting a few minutes until one of the other boats left at the other end of sting ray city where it was calm and the waves were not breaking down there. Half of the boat didn't go in the water. I mentioned to the crew member that was in the water holding the sting ray that it was too rough and he said to me that Yeah, we had to anchor at this end where the waves break. We were a party of 10, from 78 down to 1, and spent a good amount of money to go out there. Very disappointed. I know you can't control the weather, but they could have controlled where they anchored. The other end would have been much better.
The boat was clean and the crew were friendly and took a lot of pictures. At the snorkeling stop, they coaxed the moray eel out of its hiding spot with some food. It was cool. And we also had a sting ray swimming with us at that point. Lots of fish at that stop too.
Overall, I would recommend this trip, but I'm hoping that the owners of Marvin's reads this and doesn't put others in the danger that we were in. My first trip to Grand Cayman we booked this tour through the cruise line, and they canceled it because of the sea conditions. That was fine. They had our best interests in mind. We went to the beach. I'm assuming that Marvin's didn't cancel it because of the money they would have lost that day.
We absolutely LOVED this tour! There were only 16 on our boat, which was nice, some of the other boats were super full. Besides the obvious beautiful scenery and the fun times with the stingray, the crew made this trip! They were so much fun to talk to and made sure all of us were having a good trip. Richard, Joe and Morgan did a fabulous job of taking care of all of us and the lunch was actually delicious! We highly recommend this one!
This tour is an absolutely required if you are traveling to Grand Cayman Island. The snorkeling and stingrays are not to be missed. Holding and feeding wild stingrays, when will you ever have a chance like this again? Kevin and Joseph were great tour guides that made the experience all the better. Would do this again next time we go to Grand Cayman.
This was a great tour! It was a nice ride out to the sandbar and the guides were helpful and quick getting us into the action. They took great photos and made it a memorable experience. The water was as clear as glass and the stingrays were amazing. The snorkeling was great and the equipment we were given was top notch. Overall an amazing afternoon!
