Delightful Shanghai city tour with awesome local food , especially Xiaolongbao ! Mary , a pure gem from Miki Tours .

We loved our guide Mary from Miki Tours . We have heard many great things about Shanghai delicacies, so booked this tour want to experience authentic Shanghai delicacies. What a great experience ! Start from booking confirmed , Miki Tours customer care staff Ayu sent us travel tips and quickly connected us by WhatsApp and sent us a reminder message with guide information prior to our tour . This worked so well for me as I'm on business in Shanghai and loved the personal hand holding.

Mary , a guide from Miki Tours . Such a lovely person, knowledgeable, delightful and charming . We felt we were guided by our Shanghai local friend .

We were suggested to leave by 8:00am to avoid the crowds in the Yu Garden . What a quiet oasis in the busy old town , Mary explained us the Yu Garden in many details , such as gardening methods and Fengshui theory for gardening , stories of those tile carving . She is a professional photographer, she took many great pictures of us and also showed us great points for pictures taking . When we came out the Garden , already full of people in the old town . Glad I set the alarm to get out of bed early!

Mary was born in Shanghai , she took us to some back streets sharing with us as a local how old Shanghai neighbors living in Longtang alleys , how the life was in past 30 years and tremendous changes these years and their good future .

Next we went to Bund ,So many couples took wedding pictures. Mary told us the stories behind the buildings , there was a bridge called Wells Bridge ,she shared with us a song she composed by herself about this bridge . We found her another talent , a singer , she plays guitar and compose songs , and she also published her albums . We went to inside of Former HCBC building , what a amazing architecture , must see !

Based on our interests, We had architecture tour at Lujiazui CBD area , Mary passionately explained us how Shanghai Pudong from country side transformed to International Financial District with world well known architecture, she also pointed out one building where Mission Impossible 3 was filled there .

We had lunch by sitting in a courtyard restaurant run by Shanghainese family , they have so many beautiful birds . The xiaolongbao was so yummy ! We never had fresh bamboo shoots , they were very tasty as well . This is very homey feeling. We were the only foreigners , this is no English sign and we will never find it by ourselves . Mary told us these food very much recall Shanghainese childhood memories , kind of like Home Cooking at Moms house!, that is why so many young Chinese are eating are eating here.

We had walking tour in French Concession, Mary explained us why called Former French Concession , since it was Concession from 1840 to 1940s , . We also drove thru many beautiful streets shaded by huge trees. She knows every streets past and shared many interesting stories , historical figures, Shanghai local mafia , drug dealers and world well known generals.

Miki Tours tailor made our itinerary based on our interests, We added Propaganda museum in the itinerary as were interested in Chinas happenings in 1950s-1970s. Especially Cultural Revolutionary period. These were very interesting posters with mixture of joyful and painful pictures in those era . After the museum visiting , we had better understanding how those hard time had deeply impacted people today.

What a fantastic day ! I cant tell you how much I learned in just 1 day with Mary , she represented Shanghai so well as a culture ambassador. We've scheduled a second day tour with her for Xitang water village sunset tour. .

Thanks Miki Tours sent us such a lovely guide , and the Calligrapgy book with our names and poetry , such a nice memory of Shanghai trip !

We would highly recommend Miki Tours and our guide Mary . It is pity here only 5 stars, we want to rate them 6 stars A .
