Batik Factory Tours

Declared by UNESCO as a ‘Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity,’ batik is a traditional artform that can still be found practiced in various places across Indonesia. The Batik Factory allows visitors to learn about each stage of the production process of this ancient and intricate art.

Visitors will witness local artists pencil designs onto fabric before applying melted wax onto their outlines. The fabric is then boiled to remove the wax after the various colors have seeped in, before being left to dry. If this all sounds rather simple, bear in mind that the designs are incredibly intricate and require a steady hand and intense focus to produce. It’s the dedication to the craft and the tradition of the art that ultimately impresses when visiting the Batik Factory.

Of course, if you’d like to purchase batiks to return home with, there’s the opportunity to do just that. As well as being able to choose from a variety of colors, patterns, and shapes, there’s something ultimately special about buying directly from the artist you’ve just witnessed produce the work.
