Only five miles (eight km) from Bonito, the easily accessible Balneário Municipal (also known as the Balneário do Sol) is Bonito's local swimming hole. Consisting of various pools and waterfalls fed by the Rio Formoso, it is one of Bonito’s few eco-attractions that can be visited independently.
Eye candy ranges from the colorful schools of fish that can be spotted below the surface of the water to the brightly hued macaws who perch in the surrounding trees. This favorite hang-out is particularly popular among families and can get quite busy on weekends and holidays. Aside from picnic and barbecue areas, there are various playing fields and sports facilities (including a zip line), and even a giant chess board. A restaurant and bars offer drinks and local grub.
The Balneário Municipal is located on Rodovia de Turismo km 8. It's open daily from 8am to 6pm. Day use costs R$30 for adults and R$15 for children.
