Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm Tours

Few people think of farming when they think of the Big Apple, but Brooklyn Grange Rooftop Farm is trying to change that. Since 2010, this impressive rooftop project, which is located on two New York City buildings, has grown upwards of 50,000 pounds of organic produce each year.

The Brooklyn farm, which is located atop a building in the historic Brooklyn Navy Yard, covers some 65,000 square feet and even includes an apiary where buzzing bees produce their own local honey. The produce produced on this unique site is sold throughout the borough at local farm stands, as well as to several Brooklyn restaurants and a 60-member community supported agriculture (CSA) group each year.

Touring the Grange grounds with an informative volunteers offers access to not only one of the largest rooftop farms in all the five boroughs, but also provides travelers with incredible views of the New York City skyline and easy access to the historic Navy Yard, too.
