Wing Haven Garden and Bird Sanctuary Tours

Wing Haven Garden and Bird Sanctuary
In the affluent Myers Park neighborhood, about one mile south of Uptown, this three-acre combination of woodland and formal gardens was opened in 1970 as a haven for birds. Hemmed in by tall brick walls, the gardens themselves were originally planted in 1927 by a married couple of bird-lovers who used to live on the property.

Highlights of this graceful outdoor attraction include an English sundial dating from 1705 and the largest chastetree in the United States; this common Southern variety of ornamental tree blooms with big, fluffy blue or white flowers in summer. The gardens have been planted according to a year-round schedule, so there’s always something here to see.

Keep an eye out for rabbits in the spring, and on hot, muggy summer days, consider bringing mosquito repellent.
