Old Town (Travel through Time): Lying in the heart of modern Rethymnon, the old town largely retains its urban fabric, as it was shaped during the Venetian occupation and reconfigured by the Turkish conquest and its continuous inhabitance until our days.Today,it has been declared a historical monument and traditional settlement. The old town of Rethymnon is a living museum of monuments of past centuries. It is full of surprises amongst its narrow twists and turns. The little harbour (above) is Venetian, as is the fortezza at the top of the knoll, with a beautiful view over the harbour, rooftops and coastline east and west.We will give a Gastronomy twist to our tour. We will stop inside the old town to small local "cafenio", "taverna", "bakery" etc to explore not onlyu the town but also the Cretan local cuisine.
