Livingstone is known for being an adrenaline junkie’s playground for a good reason. From water sports to hang gliding, there’s an activity to push just about anyone to his limit. Three days may not be long enough to explore all that the town has to offer, but 72 hours is the perfect amount of time to get your blood pumping and heart racing. Plus, you’ll leave with enough wild stories to thrill colleagues once you’re back to the working world.
Day 1: Stay dry by staying on land
After a quick breakfast on the streets of Livingstone hop in a taxi to Victoria Falls Park. Spend the morning wandering through wooded paths and shaded trails before crossing the footbridge over the iconic Natural Wonder. Hike through the rising mist, then climb down into the Boiling Point and watch water sport enthusiasts pile into rafts before they splash out on Level 4 and 5 rapids in the Zambezi River. Head back into town and visit the Livingstone Museum, where cultural artifacts, local handicrafts and Zambian history, are on display—including a special exhibit on witchcraft.
Day 2: Get wet in the water
Rise early and head out for the quintessential Livingstone experience: whitewater rafting on the Zambezi River. These Level 4 and 5 rapids prove difficult for even the most seasoned adventurer. But that’s part of their attraction. Long, violent passes with deep waters and major drops (not to mention crocodiles and river snakes that are nearly impossible to avoid) mean plenty of excitement. Full and half-day trips with seasoned guide teams are easy to find, and while rafters need not be expert swimmers, they still need to be fit, since climbs in and out of the river tend to be steep. After a day in the water, head into Livingstone for a hearty meal and some beers at one of the local shabeens or area nightclubs before turning in.
Day 3: Push the limits with extreme sports
If whitewater rafting wasn’t enough, use a final day in Livingstone to take advantage of the town’s laundry list of other extreme sports. Head to the Vic Falls Bridge and go for the ultimate trifecta: Bungee jump 364 feet into the air above the Zambezi River. Then swing across the falls in a giant gorge sling with your friend before hopping on a zip line to fly across the sky. Afterwards, head back to Livingstone and stop by the Lion Encounter, where visitors can get up close and personal with the King of the Jungle by walking with lions as part of a local conservation effort. Finally, take an afternoon trip to Livingstone Island for a dip in the Devil’s Pool, at the edge of Victoria Falls, before relaxing on a sunset cruise and calling it a night.
