The Basics

Entrance to Stonehenge is via timed ticket. You’ll be able to view the stones from a few meters away, and shuttle transportation between the observation areas is included with entry. Access to the stones is limited to 30 minutes, but you can spend as long as you like exploring the site’s visitor center. If you want to visit the Inner Circle and walk among the stones, you’ll need to book a special tour outside of public opening hours. Day tours from London are often combined with nearby attractions such as Oxford, Windsor Castle, Bath, Stratford-Upon-Avon, or the Cotswolds.

Stonehenge and Bath Day Trip from London with Optional Roman Baths Visit
We had a lovely day visiting Windsor Castle, Stonehenge, and Bath. It is a whirlwind excursion lasting 12 hours. The bus is comfortable and clean. The tour company personnel are very professional. We enjoyed commentary from our guide that gave us historical context. There is no scheduled lunch break, so pack a sandwich or pick up food to-go along the way. They do not allow coffee in the bus. Cold drinks appear to be ok. Verify with the tour company.

Stonehenge Inner Circle Access Day Trip from London Including Windsor
Nick is the best tour guide I encountered. He is knowledgeable and thorough, the itinerary provides plenty of time for every stops in the itinerary. It weren’t rush from one place to the other. I recommend both Nick the tour guide and this Stonehenge inside access trip, without reservations!!

Stonehenge, Windsor Castle and Bath with Pub Lunch in Lacock
Excellent tour. Wish we could have seen more of Windsor Castle, but it was closed the day of our tour. Our guide was excellent, though, and made up for this loss by giving us extra time in Bath so we could visit the Ancient Roman Baths. Stonehenge was amazing.

Half-Day Small-Group Tour to Stonehenge from Bath
Our driver Dan was right on time for the pick up and carried on a lively description of the countryside as we motored to Stonehenge. The minibus was comfortable if not a bit tight (Note-I am 6’2”). Dan provided clear directions when we arrived and returned us back exactly on time.

When to Get There

Stonehenge is open all year round, but the most atmospheric time to visit is during the summer or winter solstice, when a huge party celebrates the longest and shortest days of the year, and entrance is free. Although visits are timed, it can get crowded in summer, so arrive early or opt for a sunrise or sunset tour to experience the landmark at its most photogenic.
