Viale Vaticano, Vatican City

The basics

Small-group guided tours and skip-the-line tickets help guarantee hassle-free access to this popular attraction. Private morning tours offering early access before the museums open to the general public are excellent for enjoying the Vatican’s treasures in relative peace. Many group tours combine the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel with St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican Gardens. If you’re traveling with kids, consider a kid-friendly guided tour focusing on museum highlights.

Fantastic Tour that doesn’t take the entire day!
Great tour of the Vatican that hits all of the highlights! This is a shorter tour than many others that are offered and doesn’t cover all of the galleries or provide immediate access to St Peters, but it was perfect for us as we were on a time crunch and still wanted to see the Sistine Chapel! Our guide was wonderful and shared great information!

Fast- track- entry ticket to the Vatican Museums & the Sistine Chapel
Redeem point easy to find and they have a bathroom, however, toilets were not cleaned up so it was pretty disgusting to go there. A guide went with us to the skip the line entrance and showed us the way so it was easy to get to the museum.
Wonderful museum spoilt by the number of people crushed in.

Vatican Museums Sistine Chapel with the Basilica or Rafael Rooms
Our guide was wonderful both in her knowledge and her handling of a very busy day in the Sistine Chapel. At times it felt as if you could be crushed and I think the authorities should be made to limit the number of people in the museum at one time. I feel they were being very greedy for money and not worrying about our safety.

Vatican Museums, Sistine Chapel, Basilica Entry skip the line
The tour had excellent customer service and communication before we ever set foot in Rome. Renata, our guide was amazing. She was a wave of organization in a sea of chaos. She brought experience and knowledge to the tour and we could not have been happier to follow her and her octopus! We highly recommend Viator for your Vatican tour!

Vatican Museums Sistine Chapel with the Basilica or Rafael Rooms
A very interesting tour with our informative guide, whose name I can't recall with it being a couple of weeks ago.The tour was well organised and educational . In making the booking, it says 'no short shorts'. Mine were below the knee, but I felt uncomfortable that I seemed to be the only person visiting that day who had shorts on. I wouldn't make that mistake again.
Ok since we avoided the lines.

Skip-the-Line: Sistine Chapel and Vatican Museums in Rome
Seeing the history of civilization through the church eyes. The guy at the ticket office was very disorganized and not on time.
I’d do it again.

Skip-the-Line Vatican Museums & Sistine Chapel Group Tour
Highly recommend using Maya! Debra was our tour guide and she was incredible. She was fiercely protective of our group getting an A+ experience even making sure other groups didn’t encroach in our space. Her knowledge of the Vatican museum made the tour even more enjoyable.

When to get there

The Vatican Museums see crowds of travelers year-round. It's busiest in summer when skip-the-line tickets or private tour guides are essential; the museums are less crowded during winter. At any time of year, the museums are most crowded at midday, so aim to visit in the early morning or late afternoon if you’re looking for a more laid-back experience.

Seeing the Pope at the Vatican

On Wednesday mornings, the Pope gives weekly addresses in St. Peter's Square. The timing varies by season but the address typically starts at 9:30am or 10am. During the 1-2 hours address, the Pope gives speeches in various languages and extends official blessings to the audience. Note that the address draws massive crowds—book a ticket ahead of time and arrive up to 3 hours before the official start time.
