Meet your personal driver at your Amman hotel and travel by private air-conditioned vehicle to Amman Citadel.
This hilltop collection of Roman, Byzantine, and medieval Islamic ruins commands spectacular views over the city and tops the list of Amman's historical highlights.
On arrival, choose to explore by yourself or to hire a local guide (own expense) to show you around and provide an in-depth history lesson. Then, stroll through the sun-burnished ruins, including Roman temples and remnants of an 8th-century royal palace. Finish with a visit to the on-site Jordan Archaeological Museum, filled with finds from archaeological sites across the country.
Next, reconvene with your driver and travel to the Roman Theater. Marvel at this steeply carved and restored hillside amphitheater and imagine the cheers of the 6,000 spectators who watched plays and other events here.
Then, stop to buy refreshments (own expense) before a 20- to 30-minute drive out of town to Carakale, Jordan’s very first microbrewery. Take a guided tour to learn how its beers are made, and sample three different brews at the bar, swapping tasting notes with your beer host as you sip.
Finally, meet up with your driver and finish your tour with a hotel drop-off.
