With your expert guide, use your fast-track entrance ticket to head inside the spectacular New Acropolis Museum in central Athens. Opened in 2009, the museum was built to house the archaeological relics of the ancient Acropolis site that were previously held in the original Acropolis Museum.
Your skip-the-line entry ticket allows you to bypass any entrance lines, so you can spend more time viewing the incredible artifacts inside than standing in line.
Once inside, stroll around the spectacular interior and see the main highlights of the 4,000 or so exhibits. Listen as your guide recounts the stories of the antiquities and the archaic, classical and Roman periods they date from, and inspect everything from sublimely carved statues to ordinary household items, all of them unearthed around the Parthenon and Acropolis site.
View showpieces such as some of the original marble statues, friezes and caryatids — figures of maidens used as columns — that adorned the Acropolis’ temples, and see finds from early Christian homes such as mosaics, busts and amphorae. Gaze down through the glass floor panels to see the excavations that revealed some of the exhibits, and hear how the archaeological discoveries delayed the museum’s opening from its scheduled date of 2004.
After roughly 75 minutes of exploring, your tour concludes at the museum. Say goodbye to your guide and choose to continue your museum visit independently or set off into Athens on your own.
