Overview

Even with just one day to spare, you can still experience the North Island’s northernmost attractions on a Bay of Islands day trip from Auckland. Soak up the views and let a driver handle the road as you travel through the green, hilly countryside and some of the world's oldest rain forest en route to the historic settlement of Russell (Kororareka). After lunch and a lesson in local Maori and European history, cruise through the bay’s many islands to Cape Brett’s legendary 'Hole in the Rock' cavern.
  • Explore the beaches, views, and history of the Bay of Islands with a driver and guide
  • Stop in small settlements along the way and see a 600-year-old Kauri tree
  • Visit New Zealand's oldest church and the Russell Museum for a dose of local history
  • Look for dolphins and other marine life on a cruise to the Hole in the Rock

A wonderful “full day” privately guided tour from Auckland to Russell. Our guide Keith collected us in his lovely Jaguar XJ-L for a beautiful drive to the Northland. Snacks, lunch, a boating excursion, and Keith’s cheery commentary made for a great look at this historic New Zealand region.
