Cycle the city streets to absorb the local atmosphere
I was skeptical about taking a bike ride through a foreign country let alone a big city like Bangkok.
I had hurt my ankle somehow during my trip and it was causing me to slightly limp. So I was extra hesitant about how well it would hold up on a bike ride. Boy were my doubts and worries put to rest. The bikes that this company provided more than made up for my bum ankle and I was cruising along the streets and alleys of Bangkok with the locals in perfect safety. Our guide Chin made sure that we were safe.
Our guide Chin was wonderful. Very laid back guy who answered all my wife's questions regarding the sites and history behind them. We saw everything from a native's perspective, right here on the street. In a bus or car you feel separated from the environment. Sure you get the luxury of A/C, but miss the real Bangkok experience.
We weren't just out on the street, but were going under bridges and through alleys, through and around various markets. Seeing places that only the natives knew and traveled. It was wonderful. My wife and I both had a blast. Chin kept looking back at us worried about how well we were keeping up, but with the electrical assist on the bikes it was hardly any effort. I surprised anyone would have any trouble keeping up.
It was the King's Birthday and Father's Day so we faced a few closed streets and tourist sites. As a result not as many people were out visiting the sites and our tour group was small. It worked out to our benefit because we were able to choose our stops and decide how long we wanted to stay. Its probably one of the reason why we took such interesting routes under bridges and around alleys. I hope that continues because we saw so much that we would have missed otherwise. We saw so many kids and people that were so friendly and smiling.
Take my advice. Book a tour with this company, tell Chin that Patrick send you.
