Your tour begins with an early morning pick-up from your central Bayeux hotel by private vehicle. As you drive to your first destination, near Lisieux, listen as your guide explains the importance of Normandy’s horse breeding establishments and its reputation for producing some of the finest Thoroughbred horses in France.
Arrive at the first stud farm in time to watch the yearlings, foals and mares being turned out in the paddocks, and see if you can spot some future racehorse superstars among the herds. Then, meet with the stud owner for a cup of coffee and have chance to learn more about the stud, before enjoying a guided behind-the-scenes tour of the stables.
Continue to Beuvron en Auge in the heart of the Pays D'Auge region, where you’ll stop for lunch (own expense) at one of Normandy’s most popular crêperies – we recommend a glass of traditional Norman cider to accompany your crêpe!
After lunch, you’ll have chance to visit another two stud farms, including a racing stud, where you’ll get to see some of the country’s top Thoroughbred stallions, and (depending on the season), a stud breeding polo horses or show-jumping horses. Along the way, you’ll learn more about what goes into a successful breeding establishment and discover how horses are bred to suit the different disciplines.
After visiting the third and final stud, you can choose to return to your Bayeux hotel, or finish your day with a horseback ride (extra cost; must be booked in advance). Depending on your experience level, you can either enjoy a leisurely trail ride through the countryside, or head out to Deauville for a fast-paced sunset ride along the beach (summer season; experienced riders only).
