Meet your guide in the afternoon at the Brandenburg Gate in front of the Starbucks. You’ll spend the rest of the excursion exploring some of Berlin’s lesser-known areas and subcultures via public transport and on foot.
Learn about the history of 20th-century Berlin and how 40 years of division between East and West contributed to city’s unique cultural development. The split helped to a contribute to a unique streak of “non-conformity” that persists to the present day. As you explore the alternative “underbelly” of modern day Berlin, you’ll check out examples of its thriving street art and graffiti culture, visit the scene of past protests, riots, and demonstrations, and visit some of the city’s most popular underground neighborhoods.
You’ll also have the chance to visit the East Side Gallery, one of the last remaining intact stretches of the Berlin Wall, and learn how gentrification and urban development are changing the fabric of this dynamic capital of a modern Germany. You’ll end your experience at the East Side Gallery.
