Experience a night dive with manta rays off Kona during this 3.5-hour excursion. One tank of oxygen is included for your dive, led by an instructor who will brief you on manta ray behavior, biology, and the proper way to interact with them. Spend about 45 minutes in the water, then warm up with hot chocolate on the boat ride back to land.
Meet your dive instructors at the designated boat slip in Honokohau Harbor in the early evening; exact meeting time depends on the timing of the sunset. You'll have already signed an electronic waiver or stopped by the dive shop to sign a paper waiver, and you must bring your dive certification to participate.
Listen to a safety briefing from your captain, then find a spot on the boat for the roughly 30-minute ride to the dive location. Watch the sun sink toward the horizon and learn about manta ray biology, behavior, and the safest way to interact with them.
About 25 minutes after the sun sets, you'll slip into the water and settle on the ocean floor, roughly 30 feet (9 meters) down. The instructors will shine their lights to attract plankton, which in turn attracts the manta rays. Spend about 45 to 50 minutes watching these graceful creatures before climbing back on the boat. Warm up with hot chocolate during the boat ride back to your departure point.
