We spent 10 days touring Hungary, but this experience for my family, was definitely the highlight of our trip! There is no better way to experience a foreign culture than to immerse oneself in it. This is the reason why I was very keen to book this tour for my family and it lived up to all our expectations and more!

The experience began the moment we received our Viator confirmation! We were contacted by Tour Coordinator, Zsolt Jurak, who very kindly asked us our dietary requirements, so that there would be no unpleasant surprises during our Cultural Experience.

Zsolt collected us as planned from our Budapest Hotel and took us to the jaw dropping, legendary Budapest Central Market Hall, where he spent a considerable amount of time explaining the different items availble at the market and their significance to Hungarian food and culture. After a very interesting hour, we set off in Zsolt's car for the beautiful countryside of Pazmand, less than an hour's drive from Budapest. Eventually we arrived at the beautiful home of the Foti family.

The whole family came out to warmly greet us Zsanett and Janos-a beautiful couple with their young sons- Tamas and Noah, making us instantly feel that we were meeting old friends and not strangers! We were shown their sprawling neatly manicured garden- full of fruit trees, a vegetable patch, a trampoline, a tree house and mini football field! Then we were invited to their living room for snacks and freshly made home-made lemonade. We were also treated to locally procured wine. The snacks consisted of mainly delicious cured local meats, fresh biscuits, toast, caramelized walnuts, freshly sliced carrots, onions, olives, etc. After a seamless conversation of exchanging interesting insights of both our families and cultures Indian us and Hungarian them, we were invited to partake in the dinner preparations by the family. Right from slicing up the the raw ingredients, to adding in the spices to the frying, sauteeing, cooking, we took part in making the entire dinner from first course to the dessert! What was enjoyable was that everyone in both our families were participating in this ritual. We were also explained the recipes and significance of each dish's ingredients as they were being made.

While the lady of the house was putting the finishing touches to the cuisine and Zsolt and Mr. Foti were readying the dining table, both the Foti boys- Noah and Tamas took us for a walk through the neighbouring forest and up a hillside for glorious sunset views of the sprawling resplendent countryside of Pazmand. Needless to say we were famished on our return and wolfed down the delicious meal which we had all helped prepare!

The fun didn't end after dessert because Mr. and Mrs. Foti wanted us to meet their neighbors- farmers with many animals who my daughters and the Foti boys delighted in playing with. For the first time my daughters saw chickens being fed on vegetables!!!

As we were leaving we were given a tour of the Foti's very tastefully decorated home and were told to keep in touch as we were friends that they didn't want to lose! Needless to say we felt the same way, in fact my daughters are still in touch with the Foti children via social media.

The moment we were entering Zsolt's car for the return journey, Mrs. Foti gave my girls some chocolate and gave us freshly ground, Pazmand paprika-so that we would never forget our magical time together! As Zsolt drove away, we looked back to see the entire Foti family waving to us, as the car sped away.

If you're in Budapest and want to immerse youself in Hungarian Culture- not the dime a dozen tourist experiences that are available- but want to truly imbibe culture with a local family, book this Tour and you will leave Hungary with unforgettable memories and lifelong friends!
