Why Travellers Choose This Tour
Skip-the-line and on-board refreshments with this Gold Class ticket for the Kuranda Scenic Railway.
Nestled high up the tropical mountains at 1076 feet (328 meters) above sea level, the rain forest village of Kuranda is a must-see destination on any trip to Cairns. Travel to the historic outpost in style, beginning with pickup at your Cairns or port Douglas hotel. Choose the order of your transit options at booking to customize the day.
On one leg of the journey, skip the line for a ride aboard the Kuranda Scenic Railway. Enjoy Gold Class service in a well-appointed cedar train car featuring comfortable lounge chairs, timber flooring and historic memorabilia. Sip on sparkling Australian wine, tea and coffee and nibble snacks while enjoying magnificent views of mountains and valleys and waterfall-studded Barron Gorge. Receive a complimentary gift pack including a pen, postcard, badge and souvenir guide as a memento of your ride.
On the opposite leg, get an aerial perspective of Tropical North Queensland as you soar over the treetops on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. Settle into an enclosed 6-passenger gondola and take in panoramic views of the highlands, forest and Coral Sea on the 4.5-mile (7.5-km) ride. Stop at two lookout stations along the way, where you can chat with rangers, stroll along forest boardwalks and snap photos.
In Kuranda, enjoy several hours of leisure time to explore the historic village and surrounds. Browse heritage markets, have lunch at a local café (own expense), learn about indigenous history at the Tjupakai Aboriginal Cultural Park or encounter native wildlife like kangaroos, butterflies and koalas at the Rainforestation Nature Park (not included).
Your full-day rain forest adventure concludes with drop-off back at your Cairns or Port Douglas hotel.
We went up on the train and the service was excellent. Carriage plush, endless wine and a cheery hostess pointing out the viewpoints. The tickets only allowed 2 hours at Kuranda which was a bit short for us but helpful staff at the Skyrail phoned through to rebook us and reschedule our hotel drop off at the end of the day. Lovely memorable trip
The service was friendly, attentive but relaxed. Having the food and beverages made the trip so much better. I would have enjoyed it more in the afternoon I think and I would have been happy to spend more time in Kuranda.
This was a lovely day. Gold class on the scenic railway was just perfect and Vivian our on board hostess was just perfect. She pitched service and friendliness just right!
Only criticism is too short a time to actually look around village and certainly no time to take on other attraction options. Transfer was excellent but we would hire a car next time so as to have longer there.
All in all a very good day for those that may not want to drive themselves.
Not worth it, organized well but on your own the whole day and the town is really small. I had lunch and browsed and ready to go back after 2 hours.
Railway: sat on the right so I saw nothing. Every bit of scenery is on the left. Seats are allocated so nothing you can do. Waste of money. How can you charge for a scenic rail when only one side of the train can see anything? Literally only one thing is on the right. Very strange, its unfair that i had to get up every five minutes on what was supposed to be a scenic journey. Gold class was nice, but again, waste of money.
The Gold Class carriages are the way to go. Staff moved us so that we had window seats. Plenty to eat and drink. The views were great as the train wove its way up the mountain and through the many tunnels. Markets were fun in Kuranda and there was plenty to see and do. Cableway back down was ok with 2 stop off points. The view coming down looked across the mountains and down onto the top of the forest with a spectacular view over the coast on the final leg. Just a shame that the gondola windows were not clear/clean.
