Meet up with your group and tour guide in the morning at the central bus station of Chania. You’ll proceed by bus through the island’s interior on your way to your first stop in a picturesque seaside village off the usual tourist trail. Start by fueling up with an included light breakfast of local organic cheeses and olives.
Continue with a hike to the ancient Cretan city of Lissos, hiking along a pine tree-lined path that offers views of the ocean and a nearby gorge while en route. This fairly easy walk will take about 90 minutes and climb 820 feet (250 meters) in elevation. When you arrive in the ruins of this historic trading and fishing center, stop by the temple dedicated to the god Asclepius. Spend the next hour wandering among the remains of this Cretan city, making sure to stop by a nearby spring to experience its healing waters.
To help cool off after the hike, head down to the coast on foot for another 30 minutes, where you’ll find a sandy beach where you can sunbathe and swim in the turquoise-blue waters for approximately two hours. An included snack of fresh fruit will add some much-need refreshment to the experience.
Leaving the beach behind, board a fishing boat to visit another small coastal village, where you’ll learn to prepare a traditional local sweet. Finish the day in the Cretan town of Paleochora, offering a cosmopolitan atmosphere and a lively social scene. Simply soak up the scenery or let your guide navigate you to some of their favorite ‘locals-only’ hangout spots. You’ll then travel back to Chania by bus to end your excursion.
