Meet your guide in the evening at Rethymnon’s Square of the Four Martyrs. You’ll start with food excursion with a ‘jolt,’ sipping on some traditional Greek-style coffee. This caffeine-infused brew is made using the unexpected method of placing the cups inside a bowl of hot sand.

Continue on a walk through the charming streets of this historic city, stopping at a 100-year-old local bakery for your next tasting. Enjoy a bite of ‘kalitsounia,’ a famous Crete-style pastry pie stuffed with cheese, spinach, fennel, and sampling of wild local greens. The historic venue will make your snack that much tastier.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite, proceed to one of Rethymnon’s oldest buildings, a structure that was originally constructed by the Venetians, and down inside the building’s 700-year-old wine cellar. You’ll then enjoy a one-of-a-kind food and wine tasting workshop, learning about Greek wines as you taste samples of red, white, rosé, and dessert wines paired with local food.

Follow your food and wine tasting by enjoying a palate cleanser at a special Rethymnon sweet shop that focuses on organic, locally-sourced treats. You’ll sample some baklava and sheep’s milk ice cream, made with products from a nearby farm.

Excellent Food experience and not only.
We had a wonderful time on our Gourmet trail of Rethymnon tour. Our guide Rebecca, did what her branded T-shirt stated. This was our best day ever, even though I would add night as this is an evening tour.
We ate amazing food I am a solo traveler but there were another 3 travelers in our small group that we otherwise would not have experienced had we headed out on our own. Our tour guide was very friendly knowledgeable and with a passion for her island.
This was my favorite tour of my week-long trip to Crete. The selections were delicious and generous and the stories and culture behind the food were equally interesting. We had the opportunity to chat with the local vendors and hear amazing stories of this Greek island.
Be aware, as the food was more than advertised. Go with a hungry appetite and dare to taste the more unusual flavors.
