Major letdown

Tried to upsell to us the whole entire time. We drive about 35 min in the dunes and the rest was at the evening destination. All other promised activities were awful not as advertised. 5 min circle on camel, dinner was average, sandboarding was a small hill pointed out to us too late to try. Our guide was bored and seemed miserable with his job.
Less than expected

The good: our driver showed up on time. The bad: the car was packed with three other people leaving my one of to sit in the back row to feel every bump, twist and turn. The driver talked on his cell phone the entire trip to and from the desert. It was a long ride listening to him on the phone. His driving was atrocious. Half way to our destination the driver asked me what package did I order. I was confused. What do you mean 'what package'?? The family already in the car later explained that she made a deal with him at her hotel, essentially the same package I paid for online but at a drastically reduced price. Her entire family - 3 people - cost the same as one of the tickets I purchased. He took us to a roadside mechanic because he had to get his tire fixed. There were 5 of us, sitting in his vehicle while he and another guy jacked up the car and fiddled with the tire. Then he took us to a road side place for the family of 3 to ride ATVs - I did not opt for that package so we just aimlessly walked around. The place was clearly off the tourist map since it was filthy, the camels looked frail and abused, the merchants would not take NO for an answer, and the washrooms were beyond disgusting. We then did the dune bashing - remember my sister in the back row - yeah, she felt everything. To be fair, the dune bashing was the highlight of the entire trip - on the dunes (red sand) is where you get your social media shots. For about 5 mins I felt like this is what I signed up for! We then went to the camp - the driver pulled up, gathered us around him, gave quick directions, pointed us to the tent - then left. As for the camel rides (camels looked OK, poop was everywhere so walking was a chore), sand boards - (didn't do it, looked like something my kids would come up with), henna painting - (lonesome woman sitting in a tent-like structure bored with her job, gave a halfhearted tattoo and tired to push me to get a entire arm done for a price.) - Live Tanura Show (there are no words... really waste of time), Live Fire Show (excellent showmanship), Live Belly Dance (she just walked to each corner, engaged a guest at each end then was done, again, waste of time) - BBQ (not bad, but not amazing). Last point to make - when he dropped us off at the hotel he pulled off as soon as we got of the truck. I turned around to give him a tip (we are tourist so we tip!) and he was gone! All-in-all, I would not recommend this excursion.
