Begin with a pickup from your central Durban hotel and set off for Durban’s ‘Golden Mile,’ a popular stretch of beachfront with hotels, restaurants and shops. You may see traditional healers at the water’s edge, collecting seawater in bottles to use as medicine, or Indian women in saris walking on the beach to enjoy the sunny weather.
Drive past Durban City Hall, hearing amusing stories about its history from your guide, followed by a visit to the Phansi Museum. The exhibits featured in this museum include Zulu jewelry and ceramics as well as other South African artifacts.
Explore the museum with your guide before making your way to the city’s Botanic Gardens. The gardens were established in 1849 and the plants growing throughout the property are a mix of African as well as American and Asian in origin.
Learn about the influence of Indian immigrants on Durban’s history, including the cuisine — sample some famous South African ‘Bunny Chow’ before the tour ends and you’re returned to your hotel.
