This Bavarian sightseeing adventure begins at Füssen station. Meet and greet the tour guide and hop on board the luxury coach. It’s a quick 10-minute drive to Neuschwanstein Castle. Along the way, stop at Marienbrücke, a 19th-century crossing that overlooks the Pöllat Gorge, for a breathtaking view of the castle.
Neuschwanstein Castle is a 19th-century Romanesque Revival palace nestled on top of a rugged hill high above the village of Hohenschwangau, near Füssen, in southwest Bavaria. This stunning fairy tale palace was the inspiration for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty castle and it’s one of the most popular of all the castles or palaces in Europe, drawing 1.4 million visitors each year.
Enjoy a walking tour of this medieval masterpiece. Explore rooms like Minstrel’s Hall, the Byzantine Throne Room and many more. Learn about the castle’s architect, King Ludwig II, and explore the terraces, grounds and gardens outside as well.
After touring the castle, travel to the nearby village of Hohenschwangau to enjoy some free time. Find a restaurant for lunch (own expense) or take a leisurely stroll around scenic Lake Alpsee.
Back in the coach, begin the 1-hour journey to Linderhof Castle in Ettal. Along the way, travel along the Romantic Road and stop to see the popular Wies Church and the village of Oberammergau, where the famous Passion Play is held once every 10 years.
Finally, enjoy a self-guided tour at Linderhof Castle. Linderhof was inspired by King Ludwig’s visits to the Palace of Versailles in France. It is the smallest of the three palaces built by the king and the only one which he lived to see completed. Even so, the palace and surrounding park together are one of the most artistic and stylistically complex ensembles of the 19th century — and a sight to behold.
The tour ends with a return trip to Füssen.
