After morning pickup at your centrally located Gdańsk hotel, travel in a private vehicle to Elbląg, where you’ll board a ship to begin your amphibious journey. In operation since 1860, the Ebląg-Ostróda Channel opened up an important shipping route between East Prussia and the Baltic Sea and today offers tourists the chance to experience Europe's longest and oldest inland waterway system.

Take in the sights as you cruise along the 81-mile (130-km) route, occasionally rising out of the water to travel along raised metal platforms. An ingenious systems of locks helps the ship navigate an elevation change of more than 330 feet (100 meters) along the way. Keep an eye out for species of protected water birds while passing through the Dransensee nature reserve.

In the town of Buczyniec, you’ll have the opportunity to disembark and visit a channel museum to learn more about the history of this unique waterway (own expense). After completing the historic route just like 19th-century traders, reconnect with your private driver for the return trip to Gdańsk, where you’ll be dropped off back at your hotel in the afternoon.
