Start with pickup at your Guatemala City hotel or the Guatemala City airport for a 9am departure to Lake Izabal, a 4- to 5-hour drive (depending on traffic conditions). Upon arrival at Lake Izabal, check in to a hostel run by the lake’s local indigenous community, and slow down to the pace of life in this traditional spot.
A full day’s worth of meals are included while you’re at Lake Izabal, so you can focus on enjoying the natural environment. Swim at Punta El Chapin beach, and watch for the lake’s population of manatees on a wildlife-spotting boat tour to Rio Oscuro. Lake Izabal is also home to a diverse collection of birds, along with howler monkeys and spider monkeys that can be spotted in the trees along the shoreline, and you'll wake up to a tropical chorus of bird song and chattering monkeys.
This 2-day Lake Izabal tour concludes with return transfer to Guatemala City, and drop-off at your Guatemala City hotel or the airport at roughly 9pm.
Please note: The hostel's electricity is limited to roughly three hours each evening.
