Already seen Hong Kong’s main landmarks? If so, this 6-hour tour is ideal for discovering the hidden, historical side of the city. Take a Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour, and ride the Central-Mid-Levels outdoor escalator into streets dating from the 1800s and 1900s. Visit stepped Pottinger Street, ride a traditional 'ding ding' tram, see a public housing estate, and explore Aberdeen fishing village by 'sampan' boat. Lunch and transport tickets included.
  • 6-hour hidden and historical Hong Kong tour by coach, ferry, and sampan boat
  • See the city skyline on a Star Ferry across Victoria Harbour
  • Take the Central-Mid-Levels escalator over bustling streets and markets
  • Explore Pottinger Street, a 19th-century stepped lane of shops and eateries
  • Ride a ding ding tram and explore the city’s first public housing complex
  • Cruise around Aberdeen Floating Village by motorized sampan
  • Restaurant lunch and ferry, tram, sampan, and air-conditioned coach travel included
Meet your guide in Kowloon, and travel by coach to the Star Ferry pier at Victoria Harbour. Part of the commuter network between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon, taking a Star Ferry is ranked by National Geographic as one of the world’s top city boat trips.
Admire the city skyline as you sail to central Hong Kong, and then ride the Central-Mid-Levels Escalator into Western Hong Kong. This 2,600-foot (800-meter) covered escalator system is the world’s longest, and carries pedestrians over bustling streets and markets.
Disembark at Pottinger Street, a stepped street named after Hong Kong’s first governor, and see its quaint shops and restaurants. Take a double-decker ding ding tram through suburbs like Happy Valley and Wan Chai, and watch a ‘Petty Person Beating’ (Da Siu Yan) ceremony, a historical folk ritual intended to dispel evil.
After a restaurant lunch, visit the Wah Fu Estate, Hong Kong’s first high-rise, new town public housing complex, and then head for Aberdeen Harbor, a typhoon shelter where fishing families work and live on their boats. Explore the floating village by walla-walla sampan, and learn about the fishermen’s lives as you weave around the houseboats.
Your tour then finishes at the original starting point.

How lucky? Only four of us on tour. The other couple only spoke Cantonese and we only English. Ming did a great of doing the tour in both languages. We did in fact see a different side of Hong Kong. From the Star Ferry to the Ding Ding Tram to a sampan ride and Taoist cleansing ceremony and then into a public housing area with market and then the highlight lunch in a local cafe with us the only Europeans and definitely eating authentic HK food. All this followed by a walking of the old quarter on Hong Kong Island. The cleansing ceremony was something we didn't know was part of the tour and are so grateful to have seen it. The other big plus with this tour was there were no extra hidden costs. We had previously done a half day tour with one of the larger companies only to find out that when we got there there was an extra charge of HKD 70 per person for a ride with one of the grumpiest ladies I have ever met. Ming was a great host always willing to give that little bit extra to make sure that we enjoyed the tour.

The guide was very informative and having a driver as well on tour was convenient. The only change I would have liked is perhaps more emphasis on The Peak district rather than the housing estate at Aberdeen. Sampan ride was good, something different.
