This 5-hour tour of Kowloon and the New Territories picks up from two different locations, The Excelsior or The Kowloon Hotel in Hong Kong. If you choose to meet at The Excelsior, be ready to be picked up at around 8:15a.m., and if you’re being picked up at The Kowloon Hotel, make sure to be ready around 8:40a.m. Numbers are limited to 10 people on this tour, ensuring you'll spend an intimate day with a small group of like-minded explorers.
Your tour begins at Tsang Tai Uk, a preserved village that was built in the 1840s. Stroll through the area, as you look at the old buildings and homes. Your guide fills you in on the history of the village, and lets you know why it’s so important to Hong Kong.
Afterward, continue on to the Buddhist temple, Chi Lin Nunnery. This temple is in Diamond Hill and is a renovated piece of Tang Dynasty architecture. While in Diamond Hill, also check out the Lian Garden. These intricate garden grounds fall over 8.6 acres (3.5 hectares) and have many wooden structures, trees, and water features all designed in Tang-Dynasty style as well.
Your last stop of the day is at a local marketplace. Learn all about the importance of these types of markets in Hong Kong from your guide as you pass by vendors selling food, flowers, and even birds. Try a milk tea and egg tart common in the city. Then your guide takes you back to the place you were picked up from — either The Excelsior or The Kowloon Hotel. Arrive between 1:15p.m. and 2p.m.
