Your Experience Depends on Who Brokers Your Trip from Viator
, Aug 2019
The cruise itself is OK. Floating down the Nile and the cruise staff are the best part. The food is OK, the pool was shallow, sad and uncovered so lots of harsh sunlight.
These cruises are posted on Viator by brokers for local tour companies Your experience depends on who brokers your trip and your own ability to say no and call out scam artists, which Egypt is full of. Our broker was a guy named Mack who would do anything to squeeze an extra penny out of us. His big lie was that we had to give him $70 USD so he could tip the boat crew.
If you want to tip the crew you just put money in an envelope at the reception desk at the end of your cruise and $5 to $10 per person per day is plenty. Mack was obviously not looking to tip the crew, he was going to pocket that money. He told us if we did not give him the money we would be harassed constantly by the crew. We discussed this agreed it was a scam and told him no. As a reference we have taken a much nicer dive liveaboard in Egypt over 7-days with boat crew and dive crew. This was with a reputable Spanish company who only asked for a base tip of $60 total.
Mac came to the boat to harass us. We told him no again. He told us if we were not going to give him the money we should leave at least $10 per person per day with reception (we already knew this). We pointed out that this only totals $40. He then said he also had to tip the drivers. They get about 15-25 Egyptian per day, so that is still not $40 - BUT Mac had already clarified several times that we were to tip the drivers and guides separately - So he was lying, so we called him out.
The Other Big Scam is the daytrip trip to Abu Simbel. Mac wanted $200 for the 2 of us to go. It's a big trip but that's a ridiculous price in Egypt. We shopped around and found a deal for $50 for 2 people to be taken in a private car with a/c and no guide. Anyone associated with an Egyptian tour company, from your hotel to your guide, is 99% likely to be ripping you off already so don't feel obligated to let them gouge you more.
we are surprised by the comments in your review and I feel that it is based on incorrect points and more than 90% of their review are lies
and here what happen exactly with Jaii F
at the first day luxury limo pick up them from hotel in luxor to the nile cruise with our rep,
our rep take them to Vodafone company to buy new sim card and wait them for more than 1 hours with the car without any extra charge ,
-very smooth check in on the cruise( luxury 5 stars nile cruise and upgrade them to upper deck cabain with also no extra charge,
-luxury and private car in all tours,
-private local tour guide in all tours,
-according to the tipping system on the cruise we collect amount 70$ which is cover all the staff on board and drivers
and we said to Jaii F (((( tipping is a way of life in egypt you only tip for good services and usually we do say tip little but often when tipping each day and to different people it can amount up to a large part of your holiday money ,to make it easy for all of us there is a system that we recommend)) and the Jaii F agree to pay that amount and then she change her mind next day!!!and refuse to tip any one,
and also we would like to inform you that in the itinerary very clear written that tipping are not including, that mean they knows before arrival that they have to pay tip but Jaii F try to not pay what written,
-we receive lots of very bad comment from the crew on board, driver ,guides and every one wasn't happy to join Jaii F because of their bad attitude to every one of our team, and hassle every one they met on the journey, and give all the team very hard time but we believe that every where there is good and bad people who give us really hard time,
-and our company paid tips to the boat on behalf of Jaii F because according to contract we have to tip the crew on board,
-According to the optional tour to abu simbel by bus
we already inform the guest at the info meeting that we have optional tour to abu simbel and it cost 100$ per person( take it or leave it) but they ask for 60% discount !!!! how came!!!!
and i think the guest looking for local bus with local people not luxury trip to one of the most beautiful temples in the world .that why they chose to get local bus to abu simbel,
mack went to the boat to say hi to the guest and just ask them if they have any comment and wish for them great hoilday in egypt,
