We had a great night hike with a terrific guide, Johnny. He took us to a small, private reserve instead of to a larger, more crowded park. My wife and I were the only ones with Johnny, and there were only two other tour groups in the park that night. We saw a Green Side-Stripped Palm Viper in a tree within the first five minutes of the tour, a Kinkajou, a Tarantula, and several frogs and toads. We did not find a Sloth, but Johnny took us to several locations outside the park searching for this animal. He really went above and beyond to make this tour a great experience. We highly recommend this tour. In fact, we liked Johnny so much that we hired him to take us bird watching early the next morning, when he was able to find a male quetzal bird for us in the parking area of the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve.

Picked up at our hotel for a wonderful evening of critter exploring. Johnny was informative and had a great eye for the critters. I mentioned that I was especially hoping to see a sloth. He found one! Johnny's scope allowed us to view the animals in detail. He even took pictures with our phone camera through the scope. Nice touch. Informative and entertaining. I highly recommend his tour.

This tour was great! Johnny was funny and considerate of our desires to see different things as well as our energy level. He was absolutely on time picking us up at our hotel. He checked in on us throughout the tour, making sure we were safe and happy. We asked to see frogs and we saw frogs!

this was awesome tour - Johnny, tour guide was really really good - very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and kept us motivated and informed though the tour. Think this was the best tour for us in Costa Rica. We got picked up from the hotel about an hour later than promised time but it was worth it - we spent about 2 hours walking though the forest from about 8pm - 10 pm and saw a viper, owl, tarantula, both types of toucans sleeping, sloth and had a lot of fun.

Our tour guide was fantastic and we saw some great nocturnal animals. It was an experience we would have never had on our own and one that we would and have recommend to any family heading to Monteverde!

The tour itself was fantastic! We visited a local farm cooperative with Juan as our guide. He was quite knowledgeable about many interesting topics and was able to point out the little critters there that we would surely have missed. This man and his friend who came to get us are not at fault here. The night walk ended much better than it had begun.

I had contacted Viator re: who the local contact was and to confirm the time of pick up a few days ahead of the hike. I believe that there was a huge lack of communication between the tour operator someone named Johnny and Viator. It turns out that Johnny had asked Juan who ended up being our guide to fill in for him Johnny was in San Jose that night. Juan's friend, Byron, ended up showing up to pick us up one hour later than we were told. Unfortunately, Byron didn't speak any English and then proceeded to head in the opposite direction of Monteverde Cloud Reserve where we believed our hike to be located I have to say I assumed that a hike labeled 'Monteverde Rainforest Night Walk' does imply that one would be in THE official Monteverde national park area. I immediately called Viator and while the rep was as concerned as we were, I'm not sure what she ultimately could have done if nefarious characters were at play here. It appeared that a huge lack of informational updates I do fault both Viator and the original tour operator was the reason that we were with someone other that our original guide and that no information was passed along to us so that we would know what to expect. Thankfully, both our new guide and his friend were upstanding guys so we did ultimately enjoy our hike. It really just wasn't what we were expecting.
