Trace the origins and history of Adolf Hitler and Germany’s infamous Third Reich in Munich during this 3-hour guided walking tour. Learn about the central role this Southern German city played in Hitler’s movement as you explore World War II-era landmarks like the Führerbau, the former Gestapo headquarters, Haus der Kunst, and much more.
Make your way to Marienplatz to meet your guide and start your tour of the city. Focusing on Munich’s Third Reich history, the itinerary takes in several wartime landmarks around the city.

See the Führerbau, which was the Nazi party building in Königsplatz, and learn about Brienner Strasse, a street that was integral to the rise of the Nazi party. As you walk, you’ll hear about the Allied bombing campaigns and the Nazi rule that both devastated the city, albeit in different ways.

Pass the Haus der Kunst, where Hitler complied a collection of art, and check out the former Gestapo headquarters from where Nazi Germany’s secret police worked. As you view sites such as Karolinenplatz and Sterneckerbräu, you’ll learn about the German resistance movements and post-war movements such as vergangenheitsbewältigung, the word given to describe “overcoming the past.”

Your tour ends back at Marienplatz.

The guide, Brett, really made this tour come alive. He's an especially competent orator with an ability to do an outstanding job seemingly effortlessly. His ability to communicate clearly and passionately is especially relevant given the nature of this particular tour. It's one thing to describe a historical figure as an effective orator it's something else altogether when that description is itself demonstrative of the form attempting to be conveyed.

How did Nazi misfits get started? Take this tour and walk historic paths to learn and muse on how it could all have been prevented with a stitch in time.

Our tour guide Jake was very knowledgeable and an interesting history buff. We learned about the rise of the Nazi party in Munich and was led around the city to significant Nazi sites. The guide was entertaining and communicated the material well.

We did our tour on a cold December afternoon with Aileen. She was absolutely brilliant!
Full description of the events and History of the rise of the third Reich, and visits to the main places when historical events took place.
Definitely highly recommended and a great introduction to the later tour we did to Dachau.

Absolutely a must especially if you have Aileen as your guide. Fantastic and full of information. Aileen also had visual aids to let you see where youre standing and how it would have looked or to see Hitler in particular places.. really really great.

We were 7 minutes late due to traffic and construction. After calling the tour company they wouldn't try to connect us up with the rest of the group. We were read a scripted liability policy and told to book another tour.

Our guide spoke openly and was so well informed. As a former educator from Chicago he taught as he spoke and of course, being American, he was easy to understand!

This was a new tour listed and I chose it over the 'Hitler' tour as I thought I would get more of a rounded view as to the history of the time. And I was right! - our tour guide Tom was so informative and the background he gave as to how this phenomenon occurred was invaluable! We covered a lot of territory historically and physically and he kindly gave us a 'gelato break' time during our 3 hour tour. At the most famous Beer Keller for the Third Reich rallies we came upon a tea dance, which was a lovely surprise!! Tom was very good about getting to know something about our tour participants, who were from all over the world, and he suggested other areas to explore and places to eat. All in all, excellent experience and value for money.

Tour guide Aileen was excellent. The tour provided the write mix of sight seeing and narrative. We had only one afternoon to see the sights and we couldn't have covered what we saw and heard on our own. Aileen's use of an I-pad to show photographs of the 'then and now' was very useful too. The 3 hours flew by without excessive walking. I would highly recommend doing this tour before going to the various museums.
