Leave the neon lights of Sin City behind during this relaxing full-day guided kayak excursion on the Black Canyon section of the Colorado River. This paddling trip, which navigates several miles of placid water close to Hoover Dam, is great for kayakers of all experience levels. During your trip you’ll stop to explore idyllic riverside beaches, caves, canyons and hot springs. Your kayak guide will also point out local wildlife, hidden inlets, hiking spots and historical sites along the way. The trip also includes all necessary kayaking equipment, river permit and safety lesson, lunch, bottled water, snacks, dry bag for personal items and round-trip hotel transport.
  • Full-day guided Black Canyon kayak trip from Las Vegas
  • Get great views of Hoover Dam, the engineering marvel that lights up Las Vegas and much of the West
  • Look for hidden locations including Gold Strike Canyon, Lone Palm Canyon, Arizona Hot Springs and Emerald Cave
  • Stop to explore canyons, caves, hot springs and beaches along the Colorado River
  • Try to spot bald eagles, red-tail hawks, coyotes, bighorn sheep, striped bass, and more
  • Paddle under a historic gauging station, built to measure the river's water flow
  • All kayak gear included with expert instruction, a great trip for beginning or experienced kayakers
Take a break from the gambling and non-stop nightlife of Vegas to the spend a full day kayaking among the beautiful river canyons found not far from the city. It’s the perfect chance to see a different side of Las Vegas: one that trades neon lights for canyons and beautiful desert wildlife.
Start the day with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Las Vegas, continuing to the kayak center where you’ll meet your guide and get your necessary gear for the trip. Once you’re ready to go, jump in your transport and head to the base of Hoover Dam, walking 1,100 feet (335 meters) down to the kayak launching point. You’ll also clear a security checkpoint where you’ll be asked to show a government-issued photo ID.
Receive a short safety lesson and paddling tips from your guide before setting off. Then spend the next 4-5 hours enjoying your incredible kayaking adventure. The trip paddles through mostly calm water, though it can occasionally be bumpy depending on the weather. Rest assured that your boat is designed for maximum stability, includes safety gear and has rudders to assist with turning.
Soon after you set out, you’ll arrive at a great photo location with fantastic sight lines back to the Hoover Dam. Snap a few shots and then follow your guide towards the next landmark at Sauna Cave, where you can take two optional short hikes. The easy trails here trace their way through a slot canyon, leading to hot springs for swimming and relaxing. For those that skip the hike, take a break on the riverbank amidst the beautiful scenery until the group returns.
Continue seven more miles (11 kilometers) before taking a break for a picnic lunch situated on a secluded beach. Once you’ve fueled up, continue paddling three miles (5 kilometers) to your next sightseeing stop at Emerald Cave, along with a historic tramway and a station once used to measure the river’s flow rate. A nearby trailhead offers more hiking depending on your group’s progress.
Finish your trip at Willow Beach, where you’ll rendezvous with a van that will transport you back to Las Vegas. Bathrooms and refreshments are available at the beach’s marina. Bid farewell to your group and guide as you head back to your hotel, arriving in the early evening.
Please note: you must provide your exact name as it appears on your government-issued ID (passport or driver’s license) at the time of booking. The local operator will use this information to obtain the required permits. The tour cannot be confirmed without this detail.

Antonio made our kayak trip down the Black Canyon a memorable experience for us. He was knowledgeable, courteous, answered all of our questions and really took care of us during our journey! I would highly recommend this trip to see Black Canyon and have a chance to paddle the Colorado! Loved the hot springs hikes, saw big horn sheep up close, and had a fabulous lunch on the beach! And of course, got to experience Emerald Cave! An amazing day of adventure! Also loved the hotel pick up/drop off part of this trip and thanks to Neil for taking care of us for that part!

Very enjoyable and informative... Loved the lunch! Fun seeing the various animals and natural attractions along the way like the big horn sheep, various plants, old mining places, and hot springs.

What an amazing trip. I have to apologise to the service provider...I decided tonight it is a good time to say thanks to all the Viator service providers who made our trips so much fun. I am nearly 2 years late....but I have to mention that visiting Las Vegas was not my idea of how I want to spend a family vacation....shows and 'the strip'....but I will never think of Las Vegas as those things again. We met the most amazing people on a hike, kayaking and driving buggies in the desert....the kayaking was fantastic...the Hoover dam wall amazing - from where we started, and the water the clearest of all. The little detours op canyons to waterfalls and hot pools and into caves made is so much more of a really amazing experience. We had our meal of fruit on a little 'beach' next to the water of this great river...we even swam for a bit, and I must say the only negative part of this trip was that it had to actually end! It was awesome. If you like water , do this trip, there is nothing hard or even remotely dangerous about the trip - just a lot of fun and 'little moments' we thoroughly enjoyed it! and will definitely recommend i to anybody who wants to experience the real Las Vegas'!

Our kayaking tour was fabulous!! I would do this trip again in a heartbeat. I think what really made the trip was our guide, Gary. Lots of stories to share with us as well as knowledge about the wildlife and plants. Hiking into the canyon to relax in a hot spring pool was probably one of the highlights. Well worth the money!

This tour was fantastic. We went as a group of four, none of which had kayaked before but we all found the trip enjoyable and one of our best days in Vegas. Our guides Neil and Joe were really knowledgable and made sure we didn't miss a thing - we even stopped off on the way back to see mountain goats! I would definitely recommend that you do this trip, even if you've never been in a kayak before. You get to see some amazing things and it is a really fun day.
