The tour guide knew a lot about Mont Saint MIchel and pointed out a lot of little details I would have otherwise missed.
The trip to Mont Saint Michel is long but so worth it. Our guide Monica allowed us the luxury of sleep while it was still dark and as the sun rose we drove through beautiful countryside passing by at least one area pointing to a major World War 2 site, Omaha Beach. My San Michel looms up as if from the sea. It is imposing and with the help of our awesome guide , Monica we learned so much. We started at the top learning how the masons were paid by leaving their mark on Stones they installed as well as the legend that allowed the construction of the abbey. Inside we saw the rooms the monks used with only a few heated by enormous stone fireplaces . It was a place of silence. Later it became a prison where those imprisoned never saw daylight. When Balzac saw these men who were as white as ghosts he went to the French government to have the prison shut. Today the monks are invisible during the day becoming active once the island is closed to visitors. The island plays a role in the recent novel All the Light You Cannot See . The lunch was wonderful, the ride comfortable, the knowledge gained priceless!
We chose the most basic option which is just the bus ride to Mont St Michel. Overall, the trip was comfortable and the ride is longer than the time we took to visit it. Climb up to see the beautiful view the island provides.
Going to Mont Saint Michel was great. Such a beautiful place to visit and great guides. It was about 3hrs to get there and the ride back was horrible!!! The A/C went out on the bus and it was extremely hot and uncomfortable. It would have been great if they had sent another bus to meet us at least half way so that we could have had a better ride home.
I notified Viator of my dietary restrictions at the time of reservation. I also let our tour guide know when I boarded the bus of my gluten intolerance. The restaurant would only provide overcooked mushy, overcooked veggies that were inedible and not the gluten free meal I requested. I did not expect gourmet fare but this really missed the mark.
Everything was exceptionaaly fine except at the very end when somehow the taxi to the hotel did not materialize. All was made well when the office staff kindly refunded my out of pocket expense for the taxi to get to the hotel. I will highly recommend the tour
