Beautiful Island....

Day tour was very good, however we were told we had to walk for 30 minutes from main settlement to train station for tour of WW11 Gun Tower & Tunnels - one of our group was on 2walking sticks & they offered no transport for this section. Station not very well signposted. We did not realise we were doing a train ride & coach. Driver was well informed & the coach tour was great - beautiful scenery. Lunch was provided on train. One negative was that when we booked, there was no mention of cost being in US $ so ended up dearer & bank hit us with a conversion fee. Overall quite a lovely day.

The first 2 hours were the military history tour which was really informative and interesting-we got information on the gun operation and exploring the tunnels it was really well setup. The volunteers who do the tour were great. We were disappointed to find out at lunch that we weren’t provided food for our son who was on an infant ticket-I didn’t realise we hadn’t been charged extra for the infant, I just paid what it said the cost was for 2 adults and an infant. I would have happily paid to have lunch provided for him or if it had been made clearer made sure to bring something for him especially as where we stopped for lunch didn’t seem to have anywhere convenient to buy anything. The afternoon portion of the trip seemed particularly rushed and I felt it would have been better to go a couple less places and spend more time there, but we did get to see a lot of the beauty of the island from the comfort of the bus.
a great day out

this is a great tour for history buffs and those who want to see as much of the island they can without walking or cycling. We were picked up on time and morning tea from the overboard cafe was scrumptious. Unfortunately the train wasn't working and replaced by a bus so that was disappointing. The lunch was pleasant and interacting with the quokkas was a highlight, on the whole a great day

If you have to visit Rottnest Island I would advise to take a guided tour. The grand island tour was worthwhile. Cycling is quite difficult as the road has a lot of uphill. I did not use the cycle but looking at others cycling, I though I was lucky not to take one.

The tour is a great way to see the island if you don't ride a bike and want an historical commentary on the way.

We were picked up at our hotel and taken to the ferry. There was a cup of tea and huge muffin for us to enjoy while we waited to board the ferry. The river was fairly calm for both journeys to and from the Island but we heard it can be choppy. We took the train to Oliver Hill to learn about the guns installed to protect Perth during WW2. On the trip back it included a lunch of chicken wrap, muffin and water. We then boarded a bus for a tour of the entire island. The driver of both the train and the bus was very informative and stopped often for photo opportunites. We saw many quokkas along the way. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

We enjoyed this tour. The guide was very informative and kind. The military history was fascinating but perhaps it could have been shortened so that more time could have been spent at the lighthouse and other stops. But the ladies giving the tours were excellent. We wish we could have spent more time searching for quorkas! The lunch could have been better but when I asked not to have a wrap, they prepared me a wonderful salad!

This should have been a good day out but was ruined for us by disorganisation and overbooking on the part of the company plus the lack of an organised time slot for lunch. On reflection we should have taken the cycling option, though wed have seen less of the whole island as being mature travellers the undulating terrain would have been challenging, but Rottnest is a beautiful place which you shouldnt overlook when visiting Perth.

From the start, with a lovely morning tea on the wharf to the end, this was a great tour. When you don't know the place, go with an expert, I enjoyed myself all day.

What a wonderful trip. Well organised although we didnt get a pick up from our hotel. We had to meet the transfer bus at another hotel 20 mins walk away. This is the only criticism of the trip. The morning tea at the jetty and ferry ride over started what was to become a highly enjoyable outing. The train ride up to the gun emplacement was fun with some of the ladies being invited to toot the horn. The drivers commentary was great. The history of the fort and tour was brilliant. On the trip back down on the train we had a simple lunch of wraps, muffins and bottled water. Plenty to go round. Our bus journey then took us to see a number of other wonderful sites but it was our number of stops to see and photograph the quokkas that was the highlight. A great day trip from Perth.
