Start your day trip to Los Haitises National Park with hotel pickup, and venture deep into the ecological sanctuary with your knowledgeable guide at the helm. On arrival at the protected coastal sanctuary, hop aboard a boat for a river cruise through red and white mangroves teeming with crustaceans, reptiles, virgin flora and multiple species of birds.

As you tour the marine park, including San Lorenzo Bay, your guide points out mogotes — rocky island hills dripping with dense subtropical forest. See Cayo de los Pájaros (Bird Key), inhabited by brown pelicans and frigate birds. Among the flora, spot the tropical almond; the wild banyan tree, also known as the shortleaf fig; and the cupey, a dominant tree species with horizontal branches full of birds.

You’ll enjoy lunch and an opportunity to swim under refreshing waterfalls. Then continue your excursion with a visit to some of the Los Haitises caverns, whose walls are adorned with prehistoric pictographs and petroglyphs created by the region’s first inhabitants.

At the end of your eco-tour, you’re transferred back to your starting point, with drop-off at your hotel.
