Enjoy unobstructed views of the Remarkables and the Southern Alps during a catamaran cruise on Lake Wakatipu in Queenstown. Head to the western shore, stopping at Bob’s Cove to soak up the views from New Zealand's longest lake. Listen to the captain’s entertaining commentary about the natural landmarks and wildlife as you relax indoors or on the outdoor decks. You have a selection of morning and afternoon cruises to choose from.
  • Sightseeing cruise on Lake Wakatipu from Queenstown
  • Marvel at breathtaking views of Mt. Earnslaw, Bob's Cove, Cecil Peak, Mt. Nicholas, and the Remarkables mountain range
  • Listen to informative and entertaining commentary provided by the local captain
  • Travel by catamaran with large viewing windows, warm indoor seating, and spacious outdoor decks with panoramic views
  • Visit the captain in the open wheelhouse if you choose
  • Refresh with a hot or cold beverage or snack available for purchase in the onboard cafe
Glacier-carved Lake Wakatipu is renowned as New Zealand’s longest lake, and its depths reach 1,300 feet (400 meters). This leisurely cruise boasts dramatic views of the surrounding Remarkables mountains, which provide a constant backdrop to the sparkling blue waters.

Board your catamaran at the downtown pier in Queenstown in the morning or early afternoon. Enjoy ample time on Lake Wakatipu, which you may recognize as the film set for the Lothlórien scenes in 'The Lord of the Rings' series.

You may not see any Middle-earth elves here, but your captain highlights the wildlife and native flora. Peer out the large viewing windows, lounge on the outdoor decks, or join the captain in the wheelhouse to learn about atmospheric pressures that cause the lake’s water level to rise, which Maori legend says is the heartbeat of a giant who lies asleep in the lake’s depths.

The vessel crosses to the western shore, stopping en route at Bob's Cove. Soak up magnificent views toward Glenorchy, Mt. Earnslaw, and the Southern Alps. You can purchase beverages and snacks at the onboard cafe before returning to the starting point in Queenstown.

Lake Wakatipu
Your captain provides informative commentary about the landmarks and native wildlife as you cruise. You are also welcome to join the captain in the wheelhouse. Learn about atmospheric pressures that cause the lake’s water level to rise and fall about 5 inches (12 centimeters) every few minutes. A Maori legend says that the water’s changing levels stem from the heartbeat of a giant who lies asleep in the lake’s depths. While a slumbering giant might be hard to prove, it's safe to say Elves have been here. The lake provided the setting for the Lothlórien scenes filmed for The Lord of the Rings movie. After a leisurely cruise on Lake Wakatipu, return to the starting point in Queenstown where your tour ends.

Excellent cruise, staff were all very friendly and happy for us to swap to an earlier time. Beautiful scenery and informative commentary. Loved the view from the top deck.

Nice views, relaxed bootride. Enjoyed it. Can only recommend as chilled in-between activity in vibrant Queenstown.

Beautiful cruise, but some lack of information
, Feb 2020
Was somewhat difficult to hear information being given during the tour, and there was some miscommunication about combo deals, however the cruise was very smooth and the views were beautiful. The guides were very helpful and offered to help take photos of groups
Scenic cruise, not long enough

Great views, good commentry, bar onboard. Would be better if it went down to Glenorchy, but compared to all else, reasonably priced tickets.

The boat ride and commentary were excellent but the advertised selection of food on board was pitiful. My family of 14 had delayed lunch to have on the vessel but there was very little to eat. Very disappoining.
