  • Walk through the Gallery of Maps and Raphael's Rooms inside the Vatican Museums
  • This exclusive experience is only available on Friday nights between May and October
Book your skip-the-line access Evening Vatican tour, likely sell out quickly, as they only take place once a week from May to October.
Your tour of the Vatican at night starts when you meet your guide near the Vatican Museums, skip-the-line, and purchase your entrance ticket (own expense, payable on the day).
Then go inside with your guide to explore some of the nearly 2,000 galleries, apartments and other rooms that make up the vast, maze-like museum complex. As you enjoy the tranquil evening atmosphere without the usual daytime masses, you’ll see artistic and historical treasures such as Etruscan and Egyptian artifacts and Renaissance art. Visit the Gallery of Maps, where you’ll be wowed by 40 frescoes dating back to the late 1500s, and Raphael’s Rooms, a group of four chambers home to paintings by Raphael and his students.
Then make your way to the Vatican’s crown jewel, the Sistine Chapel, where you have about 15 minutes inside to admire the famous artwork (talking inside is not allowed, so your guide will tell you about the chapel and its frescoes before you enter). Stare in wonder at Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam, his most iconic ceiling fresco, and The Last Judgment, a piece that adorns one of the chapel walls.
After exiting the chapel, your tour ends just outside the Vatican, where you are free to stay at St Peter’s Square as long as you like. This is a great chance to capture some beautiful evening photos of the Vatican. (Note: Entry to St Peter’s Basilica is not allowed in the evening.)

Not a good experience

First of all this is an overpriced experience and not worth it. I would not recommend it. I paid $120 for three people and when i went to check in they said this is the price for guided tour and the headphones and skip the line. I had to pay another 70 euros for the tickets yo get into the museum. Definitely not worth it
BEWARE!!! They say admit ion to Varican Museums is included but they will charge you again for tickets!!!

Our tour guide, Francesco was amazing! He went above and beyond to answer all questions! He is the only reason I have this tour more than a star! The company will charge you EXTRA 24 Euros/ person when you arrive at the location! They don’t take credit cards and they gave a very weird explanation to why they charge people extra! A lady in front of me didn’t have cash and the lady at the reception desk told her to give her whatever cash she has on her.
An audio guide does a better job

We paid a premium for the evening tour, only to be met by a rather unengaging, somewhat confused and drained out tour guide who coincidentally shared that she has been doing this 3 times a day. I can only imagine that her motivation to drum up the group’s interest would have waned by then. Imagine repeatedly hearing a monotone in one ear and having to partake in a tour with many other folks. The price paid for the tour (with the additional entrance charge for all parties) certainly does not justify the experience. Needless to say, we left early and headed to the Sistine Chapel ourselves. I am now quite doubtful of the reviews given on this site; for it influenced my decision, so if anyone do get to read this, beware of the fact that you will likely be bored to bits.
Extremely Disappointed

Italian taxi driver angry and upset that he was unable to find the tour meeting place that Viator provided. I noticed that many other people have commented on the website about this too. Viator needs to give a detailed map with the directions to make it easier or change the meeting place. Not happy about losing out on the experience and my money too.
Go on your own but hire a guide at the museum

The night tour was a little less busy than the daytime, but all the sites at the Vatican that we wanted to see were closed due to the time of day..... You couldn't see the roman statues or St Peter's.... Not worth the money, simply pay on your own and hire a private guide.

I go into every experience with an open, positive mind. If you do that, you can't possibly have a negative experience. That being said the tour guide and tour itself were excellent! Our guide seemed eager to be there, and he was very knowledgeable and funny as well. The set up at the meeting point was seamless, and there were no unexpected expenses. Yes there were other tours at the same time, but in case you didn't know, The Vatican is colossal, so you'll fit. I expect to visit Rome again and will definitely use Viator tours again

The way this tour is worded is that the Vatican museum is an optional cost. It is not optional. And when you arrive at departure poiny you pay an extra €25 pp. You cannot see the Chapel without going miles thru the museum. Its not an option. The grounds of the museum are lovely. But 3hrs of tapesties and paintings when all you want is the Chapel its way too expensive. And boring unless you are a painting history buff. We were exhausted by the end with people pulling ouf mid tour. The Vatican have designed this tour for maximum exposure to souvenires . Much has changed sice i saw the Chapel in 1995. Sad.Lots of walking. Not suitable for walking impaired, children, babies or strollers
extremely crowded all 6 group tours left at the same times.

A visit to the Vatican Museum and Sistine Chapel is not to be missed! Plan on at least four hours and lots of stairs. We were exhausted by the end of the tour but we're glad we did it.
