Make your own way to the predetermined departure point in central Rome where you meet your guide. Step aboard the climate-controlled coach and head to the catacombs, which are located underneath the Basilica of St. Sebastian.

Your guide explains the significance of the church façade, then takes you inside to see the tomb of St Sebastian. Next, descend to the catacombs, the first burial site of the Appian Way. As you look around, your guide shares informative commentary about the catacombs, such as the legend that they once held the bodies of the apostles St Peter and St Paul.

Continue along the Via Appia to the tomb of Cecilia Metella, which dates to the first century BC and was made to honor the daughter of the Roman Consul. It later became a castle for the Caetani family, an aristocratic family with close ties to the papacy.

Head to the magnificent Aqueduct Park to take in the largest aqueducts of the Roman Empire. Gaze over aqueduct arches that stretch over miles and see one that supplies water to this day.

Your tour ends with return to the Basilica di Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, which is located in the Piazza della Repubblica.

Our guide provided such interesting information on Ancient Rome - enjoyed this tour more than I expected to
Loved this tour.

Really enjoyed this tour. Our young female tour leader was extremely knowledgeable and very nice and friendly. Seeing the ancient aquanauts outside of Rome was very interesting and the catacombs were really cool to see and also cool cause it was hot outside. Seeing the old Appian Way road makes you wish they could build highways that well today.
Terrible tour guide at catacombs

Tour guide RAN thru catacombs. 5 people left behind not knowing which way to go because we couldn't get down steps fast enough. NO time to look at things and definitely no time for pictures.

Great tour! Thank you. This a comfortable tour, very educational, and our kids loved learning more about the aquaducts.
Not worth it

Only 6 people, nice small group. Pleasant guide. Nothing to really get excited about seeing on this tour. But the vehicle that took the English group was a minivan that had a row of rear facing seats, so 3 people were always looking out the back and could never see what the guide mentioned “on your right” or “on your left” The vehicle that took the non-English group had a van with all normal seats.

This tour was cancelled at the last minute leaving us without time to make another plan. I was very disappointed. While the had been sent an email 24 hours in advance, I don't normally check my email on vacation. The morning that we stood and waited for our tour leader, we called all of the numbers that we were provided. None of the phone numbers worked. This was the one tour that my husband wanted to do in Rome.

Serena was great and knowledgeable! The catacombs tour was really neat, but more walking than hearing about the catacombs. Aquaducts park was a great park and up close experience with the aquaducts.

David our guide was knowledgeable and humorous and added so much to our visit. He knew everyone's names and kept the small group together on a very busy day. Also he added so many interesting things about the city, the country and the language such as the derivation of the word 'salary' amongst others. We thoroughly enjoyed our day and would give his name and your company site to anyone who asked. Terrific. Barry and Maureen

The tour was great! The aqueducts, and catacombs were fantastic. However, at one point our guide Judy went off on a tangent and talked with another person for at least for 15 minutes about a celebrity which had nothing to do with the tour. We spent all of one minute on the Appian Way because we were late for the catacombs tour. Again, a great tour but would have rather had a different guide.

Very knowledgable guide, although he did have a little difficulty with finding the correct English word at times. Those of us on the tour were always able to help him out. The history of the aqueducts was interesting and a marvel of engineering for their time. The Catacombs were a highlight for my wife and was at the top of her sites to see while in Rome. Being on the original Appian Way was amazing to me. Standing on an over 2300 year old road, used by the ancient Romans and with chariot ruts still visible was history in action.
