Dress warmly and travel under your own steam to the snowmobile center in Rovaniemi. Alternatively, enjoy a pickup from one of the designated hotels outside town and ride a coach or minivan to the center.
Don your provided thermal suit and helmet, and after a safety briefing and instructions, climb on to your 2-person snowmobile.
When you’re ready, drive in convoy with your guide vehicle at the lead. Take turns to drive or ride pillion and feel the thrill as you zoom through the snow-covered landscapes. Zip along the frozen Ounasjoki River past wintry pine woods and arrive at a lake nestled in the fells.
Leave your snowmobile and enjoy the serenity of the winter wilderness. Then, get tips from your guide on how to ice fish — a skill used by the peoples of Lapland for millennia.
Let your guide prepare the equipment and hole in the ice, and then drop your baited line into the icy waters.
Take a seat near the hole and wait for a bite. Soak up the pristine surroundings, chat quietly to your guide and, with luck, feel a tug on your line from a rainbow trout, perch or another species of fish.
Head back to land and sizzle up your fresh-caught fish on a campfire. If you’ve come back empty-handed, feast on sausages cooked on the fire, all alongside a hot drink.
When the time comes, return to Rovaniemi on your snowmobile and end your tour with a drop-off at the original start point.
Please note: the order of activities as described above may alter on the day of your tour depending on weather conditions, daylight hours and other seasonal factors.
