Head to the UNESCO World Heritage-site Diocletian's Palace, once home to the eccentric Roman emperor. Continue on ot Peskarija, the local fish market that sells daily local freshly caught seafood just off the coast of Split. Absorb the atmosphere of the market as local fishmongers yell out the day's catch for shoppers.
If all this gawking has worked up an appetite, next you'll be treated to a traditional Dalmatian snack. The menu might change depending on what is in season but expect local specialities such as prosciutto, known as pršut here, as well as, sheep's milk cheese, octopus salad, anchovies and olives. And don't forget about the locally made wines, which are delicious. During the meal, listen to your guide regale you with stories about Split's history.
