3-Hour Guided Jeep Tour Island Highlights and 1-Hour Relax by Beach

The trip is a good one if you want to get a feel of the beautiful island of both French and Dutch sides in a matter of a few hours. The tour operator and the guide (Andre) was very friendly and amicable. However, for the entire 4 hours the guide did not put on his mask even ONCE. We were in a jeep - with me seated next to the driver in the front (barely two feet distance) and two additional passengers in the back. We all had our masks on except for the guide. Moreover, when I asked him why he doesn’t have the mask on, his answers were, and I say without any paraphrasing, “I have my spiritual mask on,” “everybody will die one day,” “vaccines aren’t real,” “Covid doesn’t infect anyone in open air,” “I go to the gym all the time so I can’t get Covid,” “eat iguana soup and berries and you can’t get Covid” - and the list can go on. Additionally he attempted to be funny about me keeping my mask on the whole time and hiding my smile! In a country that is to tourism dependent and just opened up to tourists during the Covid era and the airport doesn’t let you in without pre-approval and a PCR test, and government sends you an email everyday asking you to confirm your temperature - I found this complete disregard toward protocol from the tour guide unacceptable and a health risk. The guide was friendly and the tour was nice - so go for it if you are comfortable to enjoy scenic drives while throwing all Covid related caution to the wind. They offer hand sanitizers and that’s the extent of the “Covid safety” that they advertise when you book the tour.

When we booked the excursion, they said they could accommodate an infant and toddler with car seats so I was excited because with Carnival you mostly have to be a certain age. When we arrived, they only had a booster seat that was worn out so I just had to hold my toddler (17 months) and our friends held their infant (9 months). They were somewhat disorganized and we thought they had overbooked. The tour guide was good, but the radios came and went. We did not get to stop at the beach where the planes come in (we drove slow and watched). So if you are wanting to stop there and go on that beach, make sure to let the tour guide know. The pastry shop is really good. The tour guide was super nice. All in all it was an okay tour, would I book it again... No.

The tour itself was good the guide Andre was great! The groups in the other Jeeps not so much, wish they would’ve stayed on their ships.. They couldn’t drive for anything and they held us up when they waited for everyone to come back from restroom so they could go get a drink at the bar. They didn’t want to do or see anything we only made 2 stops, never made it to the bakery. Then at one of the stops they got on the radio and said no please don’t stop keep going. How is that fair to others that paid for this tour. Not saying that any of this is at all the fault of the guide or company, just giving my review.

Latch was the best tour guide. He took us to places that probably were not on tour and explained everything so clearly and with such a passion.

We had a family of 8 in 2 jeeps. The jeeps are in great condition and the walkie-talkie communication is a wonderful idea. Our guide, Latch, was very informative. He is clearly a dedicated family man and gave us insight into the devastation Hurricane Irma inflicted on both the island and his family. The island is still suffering from the damage but is slowly getting back. We stopped to feed the iguanas and ducks which we all enjoyed. Latch stopped at an ice cream parlor and a french bakery. We saw the airport with a plane flying very closely overhead. The weather was cloudy and rainy but we all still had good time.

Saw a lot of pretty sights. But it was not well organized. We drove in heavy traffic a big part of the time. They wouldn’t let you take the tops off the Jeeps. No off roading, just street driving. No planned stops for bathroom breaks. Left part of the group at Maho Beach because he didn’t check to make sure we were all there before leaving. High point for our granddaughters was the iguanas and a steep road! Otherwise a little boring for children. We thought we would do some off road and definitely with the tops off!

Latch was our tour guide! He was awesome! He gave us lots of info about the island and we had a lot of laughs. We would definitely do it again.

Terrible experience. Booked a private jeep for myself and my family 4 persons based on clear description that the total price 300 would cover up to 4 individuals. Upon arrival, the tour operator insisted that the fee only covered one individual and an additional fee of 240 would be necessary to continue with the excursion. Furthermore, this could only be paid in cash as their card processor was non-functional. I clarified with her that this was not my recollection of the details of the booking but she was adamant that I was in error. At best, this tour operator is incompetent and at worst are willfully extorting tourists with these bait and switch tactics. I typically stick with cruiseline-affiliated excursions but decided to take a gamble on this operator. My mistake. Don't let it be yours too.

Wonderful tour of the island. It is unfortunate to see the amount of damage on the island due to Hurricane Irma, but the rebuilding process witnessed during this excursion, is beautiful. The natural beauty of the island highlighted on this trip is breathtaking and offers incredible photo opportunities. If you are weighing the 4X4 tour vs an ATV ride, I highly recommend the 4x4 tour!
