Start your morning at Hwaseong Fortress, located 19 miles (30 km) from Seoul. Travel by comfortable climate-controlled coach when your guide picks you up at your Seoul hotel, learning the history of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed fortress during your scenic drive.
Disembark upon your arrival and follow your guide through the site, exploring the fortified walls, stopping at gates and artillery towers, and admiring the architecture of the official fortress of Suwon. During the approximately 1.5 hours you spend at the fortress, your guide explains how and why the fortress was constructed in the late 18th century, towards the end of the Joseon Dynasty (1392–1910).
When you depart from Hwaseong Fortress, continue by coach to your afternoon destination: the Korean Folk Village. Head into the village's traditional market to enjoy a classic Korean lunch of bibimbap (a rice dish with meat and vegetables). Taste other specialties such as Korean rice cakes and traditional liquor if you like (additional expense).
The Korean Folk Village opened in 1974, after more than 260 traditional houses were carefully renovated to showcase elements of the late Joseon era, including various household goods and artifacts from different regions. Set out on foot to discover aspects of Korean culture and folk customs like nongak musical performances or jultagi tightrope acrobatics. Inside the workshops you’ll find artisans making traditional handicrafts such as pottery, baskets, bamboo wares, paper, brass wares, fans, musical instruments, embroidery and more.
After approximately three hours at the village, re-board the coach for the return to Seoul, with drop-off at your hotel.

Really nice and kind guide. He was very helpful and knowledgeable. For example he gave out tips about Seoul and what to eat.

This was a private tour and our tour guide was great. I would have preferred some "on my own time" to shop or wander around but I don't think that's how this tour is set up to be.

Interesting day,you get to find out a lot about Korean culture.

This tour is really fantastic. The Korean Folk Village is not habited but does have a tremendous display of the stylistic elements of traditional Korean architecture and wares. We really enjoyed learning about the structure of the houses and seeing the various displays that the village put on - including a great folk music demonstration. Our guide was really knowledgeable and able to take us through the entire village answering all questions.

We had lunch at a traditional tofu style restaurant just outside the village but they did serve a nice pork cutlet for those who are not fans of tofu. It was traditional in every sense of the word which we really enjoyed. Shoes off at the door, sitting on the floor, and various side dishes to share between us all.

Then we were taken out to the Hwaesong Fortress where we stopped to walk the wall and have a view of the surrounding city and learn the history of the Fortress. Then we went into the Hwaesong Palace and learned all about the differences in Palace colors and structure.

Best of all was how engaging our guide was. He spoke constantly giving us great history and background, both modern and ancient, of everything we were seeing. He was great in taking photos and actually getting us both into a photo which for my boyfriend is often near impossible. Had a great time with him and luckily, our second trip, we had the same guide!

I enjoyed it but the tour guide was not very keen on us watching the shows in the Folk Village. Apparently everything got cancelled ! He was always in a hurry.
